CONNECTIONS: VIRGINIA TECH-MIDDLE TENNESSEE

The Hokies have five student-athletes from the Volunteer State; DB Elijah Howard, LB Jaden Keller, OL Bryce Goodner, OL Derrell Bailey Jr. and TE Cody Duncan.

Middle Tennessee OL Eric Magwood (Virginia Beach) is the only Blue Raider to hail from the Commonwealth.

Blue Raider QB Bailey Hockman transferred to MTSU following the 2020 season. He played at Virginia Tech for NC State in 2020 throwing for 82 yards and two INTs. Tech won the game 45-24.

Virginia Tech’s Senior Director of Football Operations Josh Bost is a 2003 graduate of Middle Tennessee where he was a student staff member as well as a graduate assistant.
 
why are Quincy Riley and jalen jackson still not playing? Very frustrating we already have injured/missing starters. Teldrick Ross and Patterson are good players but we need Quincy and jalen back already. Frustrating as hell

very interesting to see Lance Robinson winning the RT job over Magwood. That’s a big surprise. He must be clearly the better player to be playing over a super senior.
 
It has trap game written all over it especially with VT history under fuente. They play up and down to their competition. We are gonna have to run the football well. When ODU upset them they ran the ball down their throat. We will have to do the same. We cannot beat these guys playing 1 dimensional through the air. Remember when we beat Ga Tech on the road ? Benny Cunningham ran wild on them. Gonna have to do something like that again.

I think our defense can give us a chance to win this game if our offense controls the ball via ground game. Let’s go in there and physically whip these sissy Va Tech boys.

Is everyone aware that we were missing several starters on D due to Covid. Crazy how this D played without them. Hopefully they will be back for the VA TECH game.

Not saying its going to happen, but would this be our biggest win in FB history if we pulled it off?
 
By spread? No. We were bigger under dogs @ Georgia Tech.

For you diehards who are making the trip to Blacksburg, please keep your head on a swivel. There were also fights in the Blacksburg stands this weekend and mentioned in the Memphis fight club story on FoxNews that I posted in another thread. “Enter Sandman” and drunk students makes a bad combination for the team entry. There’s video floating out there of the Hokies taking the field after making UNC wait.

Yeah a UNC dad actually attacked a few VT students after they threw beer at him.

Tech announced this week major changes to help all that. Students now have to go in a certain gate and their section is roped off. Who knows if it'll work. But going by the amount of tickets available even on the Tech site, it won't be near a sell out. I got my chairback seats for less than $30 each before fees. Still sitting close to visitors section though for those crazy reasons listed.

Best article by far, I haven't seen anything this detailed ever on the MTSU team. Love the insights. The section called "Time to Throw, Bailey Hockman" was interesting, what I'm unsure of is the time to throw stat based on how quickly the QB throws or when a defender shows up. If it's the former then the stats tells you the decision making is quicker and explains the .5 seconds that Bailey has shaved his throwing but if it's when a defender shows up than it only applies to plays were pressure is applied. Still an interesting stat either way just wish the author explained exactly what it means.

I also think the author incorrectly assumes that Va Tech can decrease the time to throw due to superior athleticism, fundamentally there is a limitation on how much time a defense can shave off the throwing time. There are moments when a team does a perfectly executed A gap blitz that will reduce time but it's not based on athleticism but rather execution of what's considered to be the most critical gap for running and passing which is unlikely to happen on a consistent basis.

Re: MTSU 2.53 seconds to throw.
