In College Park MD, the Blue Raiders (1-1) fell 24-10 to Maryland. Eugene Gross had 74 yards rushing and MT's only touchdown on a 2 yard run. He also passed the 2,000 yard mark for his career. Bobby Williams was the leading receiver with 7 catches for 71 yards.

9-7-96: In Nashville, the Raiders (0-2, 0-1) dropped to 0-2 for the first time since 1980, with a 24-14 loss to Tennessee State. MT's only touchdown was on an 18 yard run by quarterback Ronnie Gordon. The others scoring came from 2 field goals and a safety.

9-6-86:
In Nashville, the Raiders (1-1) lost to Tennessee State 7-6. The only MT scores came on field goals (33 and 34 yards) by Dick Martin.

40 Years Ago This Week
9-4-76:
In Nashville, TN, the Raiders opened the season with a loss to Tennessee State 26-17. MT trailed 13-3 at halftime and managed to cut the lead to 19-17 with 9:35 to play but could not get the win. Mike Moore and John Dukes had rushing touchdowns for MT.
 
This looks more like a tribute to TSU wins over us. We lead the series 10-9.

The OVC would later call for a forfeit by TSU in the 1986 game, but Coach Donnelly refused to accept the victory.
