FOOTBALL Orlando Sentinel College Football Preseason Rankings 2018

Looks like we're gonna have 6 CUSA teams in the top 70. I think that might be a first. By default, we're in the top 3 in the east. I see Marshall and FAU over us. In the west, UNT will be first so we should be in 4th in CUSA. Possibly 3rd. There are some shockers on here thus far.

Vandy at 106. Will we beat them finally? According to the Sentinel we should...

I am going to jump out there and say no, and it won't surprise me if we lose again to wku, to make the Raiders 0-8 combined against wky and vandy over the four seasons including 2018.

Without Webb, Sherfield and a good bit of D, I like our chances. If our Oline can give Brent some more time, we'll play much better this year. WKU goes down this year. They just lost a few players including Mike White and their 2 top WR's. White is the only reason they beat us the last 2 times. They have no one who can touch White's ability right now.

You're optimistic every year about our chances because so and so graduated or isn't there anymore. Then, reality sets in and it's same ole' same ole'

Will this year be any different? Doubt it, but there's always a chance I guess.

Wiley, of course I am. However, in reality, we should play better this year because of certain changes that are positive for us. I think the line will be better and the WR options will be better. Zack and Zeke, Jimmy Marshall, Lee, etc. West and Thomas in the backfield. I just like what we have this year.

Honestly, do any of you see Vandy and WKU being better without these star players like Webb (who torched us for 3 years), Sherfield and White (who torched us for the last 2 years)?

Sorry, I don't see it happening. Even the Orlando Sentinel has both teams trending downward. I think we will be much like we were vs. Arky St. We dialed into a multi distribution system and a stout D. ASU was a better team than Vandy and WKU in my opinion.

I feel good about beating WKU this year. However, not sure if we are capable of playing a mistake free game to open the season. And that is what it will take. The Vanderbilt game is critical because it’s a winnable game. For once it would be nice to get off to a fast start.

Here is what ESPN predictor says for each of our games. The chance their algorithm gives us to win is in parentheses. I always find it interesting and, a note, it's not THAT accurate.

Vanderbilt - L (40%)
UT Martin - W (92%)
Georgia - L (2%)
FAU - W (53%)
Marshall - L (31%)
FIU - W (65%)
Charlotte - W (87%)
ODU - W (67%)
WKU - W (80%)
UTEP - W (87%)
Kentucky - L (22%)
UAB - W (65%)

That comes out to 8-4, with 2 of the games being within 10 percentage points, i.e. close calls. Not too bad. Of the losses ESPN's computer gives us, Vandy is the most winnable by percentage. I am surprised it likes us by so much over WKU - I guess they are going to suck this year?

what happened to vanderbilt QB? I thought he was young...Kyle Shurmur was his name.....He torched us

The countdown has reached 65 with Maryland. It would surprise me if MT isn't in the next five...

Actually a bit surprised...I think we are better than a few of the MAC teams. It will be interesting how it plays out, a few other CUSA teams (NT and UAB) are neck and neck with us along with schools like Temple. Why isn't Wyoming ranked yet, they lost their best player.

I think they see us end the year strong and win our bowl game with a SR QB returning. I think all the teams from 40-70 could be arranged in any order.

That's an awfully generous ranking. How are we 6 point dogs to Vanderbilt using his ratings? Not buying it.

Dude, you can't compare the west to the east of this conference. The west hasn't won the title since the 2013 season. The east is a gauntlet with Marshall, FAU, and WKU all of which have won the title in the last 4 years. Add in a much improved FIU and the west can't even come close in comparison.

In 2007, we won 5 games. LOL

UAB returns from a self-induced death bed coma and in just 3 years finished 2nd in their division last year. Now they are poised to make a run at the CUSA Title with a former Blue Raider QB.

SMDH

I miss Manny and 2007!!!

They had the ball bounce their way every time it mattered last year. They beat us at home by a point because we were turnover happy with a backup. I give them props but let’s see what happens. I think they got destroyed by Ohio when the bobcats protected the ball. I think we are a better team.
