FOOTBALL Orlando Sentinel College Football Preseason Rankings 2018

:(

We must be closing in on a national record for the longest tenure of a head football coach without an uncontested conference championship during that period.

Stock is tied with Pat Fitzgerald at Northwestern for the longest tenured FBS football coach w/o an outright conference championship.

Interesting side note, Kermit was tied with Bill Carmody, also at Northwestern, for the longest tenure at the same group of schools without an NCAA bid or conference championship prior to making the NCAA.

I will give Massaro and Jim Phillips credit, they are both consistent with their low expectations.

I guess I'll have to root for Northwestern, so we can have it outright. I'll take any record we can get. The new slogan for MT Athletics is "It Could Be Worse"

Northnwestern's difficulties are understandable. They're an academic powerhouse surrounded by some of the best athletics programs in the country, much like Vanderbilt in the SEC or Wake Forest in the ACC. It's difficult for Northwestern to compete with tradition-rich juggernauts like Ohio State, Michigan, Nebraska, etc.

What's our excuse?

FAU has created separation from top CUSA teams. MT has to do something special to catch them. However, we get them at home after a bye week.

@ Marshall, the week after FAU, will be a serious challenge as well.

3 SEC road games on schedule doesn't make life much easier.

In comparison, UT has 4 SEC road games and an FCS school on schedule in 2018.

Disagree all you want. They won 8 games last year and was closer to winning the east than we were.

If WKU couldn't win with Mike White, they aren't winning with anyone else at QB. Their top center left and are hurting on the OL. They can't run and their D isn't that good. If they win more than 5 games this year, I'll be shocked. 3 of their top 4 WR's are gone. Can you say depleted?

Mike White throwing those 2 deep TD bombs on us with those experienced WR's is the only reason they beat us last year. They won't have anyone who can do that this year.

I find it odd how USM fans are complaining right now. They were at rock bottom 4 years ago. Now they are winning. People forget so quickly. They have less money than us. To win with low budgets is far more impressive than winning with 80 million plus in the bank.

Beat 3 of the 5 worst teams in FBS, beat the FCS team and Stock only needs 2 out of 8 to make a bowl and and get another contract extension.

It’s been 3 seasons since Stock and Massaro touted “the contract” as an act of unselfishness by Stock to help offset the Cost Of Attendance stipends in the budget. But he was still paid over $2 million for those three years and hasn’t even sniffed a CUSA title.

So, does this mean we are paying our players cash money to cover the "cost" of attendance. And if so, how much?

There are links that show how much by school and conference. The USAToday link ranged from $2500-$6,000 in ‘15-‘16 But Middle Tenn did not provide the information. FIU AND FAU were around $6,000. Memphis was $5300
