BASKETBALL McDevitt announces first non-conference schedule

Stout schedule. The G5's we play are all very stout teams. Rhode Island, Lipscomb, Toledo, Murray State, and Belmont were at the top of their leagues last year. Very impressive OOC schedule. Glad to see we are not backing down despite having a completely revamped and what I view as inferior roster compared to previous years. I could see us losing nearly every damn OOC game except the Charleston Southern game.

I like this schedule. We are definitely going to be tested this year. I do think we will be better than you think...

Really tough schedule! Hopefully McDevitt will be able to patch things together just enough to make us competitive in his first season.

Very strong schedule...I hope a change in style of play will help us against Belmont. They have owned us.

As far as the team, hopefully another one of the transfers will get approval to play this year. We are going to be very athletic, maybe short but a lot of 6'4" to 6'6" guys can take a lot of space.

All of the changes particularly with the change up of the highly successful coaching staff has a tendency to leave many a MT fan a little doubtful or anxious to see how or when MT might continue with such a high level of success to which so many MT fans have become accustomed. Of course, doubt and anxious moments tend to leave many people with attitudes and expectations of failure and poor performance. Thus, many people have already written off this season as a wash or worse an abject failure. People are already talking about giving up on this season with some even beginning to speculate that MT is rushing headlong into years of poor performance and irrelevancy.

Again, I get dreading or not wanting to see the wave of success subside. Reasonably and logically though, couldn't the opposite just as likely occur? Rebuilding a team, a new coaching staff, perhaps it takes a couple of seasons to build momentum for success. On the other hand, is it not possible that a new coach and players could come together quickly and have much success this season?

Sure, this iteration of the Blue Raiders are likely facing an uphill battle in forming a new system and team. Just as it's possible MT could be incredibly unsuccessful this season, MT could also be incredibly successful this season. It is important at this point that the fans and base not yield to doubt and despair and abandon the team when they need support. Not only do they need support, it could be awfully interesting and exciting as basketball fans to see how the team performs and which players excel and rise to overcome the odds and obstacles to succeed.

To be clear, I am not remotely abandoning the team or the program. To the contrary, I hope fans take this season as a challenge to redouble their support for the basketball program, even if the journey this year is substantially uphill. I want us to reach a point as a program where Blue Raider Basketball can succeed with any of a number of coaches and that it becomes a bedrock tradition of this community to support the program in lean times and great times. We’ve got a long way to keep going to get to that point. But I’m most definitely doubling down on my support, even if we have a tough year ahead.

Having been a basketball fan since a student sitting up near the windows in Alumni Memorial Gym and season ticket holder since the late 70s, I have sat through some lean years, and so I've really appreciated the good times the last six or seven seasons represented. Hopefully this is just a little bump in the road. The circumstances this coach and staff and players find themselves in require some patience and support.
