Stock leaving will help attendance a bit, but I really think there won't be a major increase in attendance, and especially donations, until McP is gone. Idk if Smith leaving the board soon will move that along or not.
Don't bet on Smith leaving the BoT yet. There is
still a possibility he sticks around. IIRC, the BoT bylaws only allow 2 terms and he's on 2nd term (I think), but they did some weird stuff when they started BoT that may allow him to stay on a bit longer. Again, don't quote me on this. Going off memory. But sharing what I remember to the best of my memory.
Now, re: attendance. It doesn't take Einstein to recognize the
reported numbers are going in the wrong direction. And I'm curious what - if any - ramifications these may have for staying FBS (there is - or was - a rule about attendance).
I have my opinions re: ticket decline. I'll share them. But it's probably beating a dead horse.
1) Stock : Stock is a good man. The players love him. But most fans don't. And they are speaking with their wallets.
2) Ticket prices : Last time I did a deep dive into MT ticket prices (compared to peer schools), MT was over-priced. It's been a bit, but IMO, MT needs an approach more in line with minor league baseball (for most seats). Family friendly. In line with other entertainment options (movie, trampoline parks, etc).
I've spoken with FAR to many MT fans who are "out" and will remain "out" until Stock is gone. Not saying I agree (or disagree). Just sharing what I have heard. So I'm not 100% sold a different approach to GA / upper deck tickets makes a huge difference.
