FOOTBALL CUSA Championship Game @ Johnny Red Floyd Stadium, 12:30PM, Saturday, December 1, 2018

excerpt from espn article on championship games:

Conference USA championship game (14th year)
Johnny Floyd Stadium, Murfreesboro, Tenn.
Saturday, 1:30 p.m. ET

UAB Blazers at Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders (-2.5)
Total: 72

The history: Favorites and unders are 7-6 ATS, with nine of the 13 games decided by double digits. This is the first division championship and title game appearance for both teams. This is the fourth straight C-USA title game with a total of 72 or higher.

The season: UAB was 8-1 straight up and ATS entering week 11, but finished at 9-3 and 8-4 ATS. The November skid included last week's 27-3 loss at MTSU, a result that secured home field advantage in the championship game for the Raiders and wrapped up an 8-4 mark both SU and ATS for Middle Tennessee -- including five straight covers coming into this game.

The matchup: Saturday's game saw MTSU hang nearly 400 yards on Conference USA's best defense, a unit that had been allowing just 277 yards per game. The Raiders also played their best game of the season defensively, and with the win they got the rematch moved out of Legion Field, where the Blazers are 12-0 straight up and 11-1 ATS since resuming football last year.

excerpt from yahoo article (Ranking the 10 conference championship games: What's the best game?) on conference championship games:

7. Conference USA: UAB (9-3) at Middle Tennessee (8-4)
Location: Murfreesboro, Tennessee | Time: 12:30 p.m. | TV: CBSSN | Line: MTSU -2.5

What’s at stake: In just its second season back after the shuttering of its program, UAB is in the conference title game. That’s pretty remarkable, isn’t it? Bill Clark and the Blazers, the C-USA West Division champions, have had a tremendous season but will head back to Murfreesboro for a second straight week. UAB’s loss to MTSU over the weekend put the conference title game back at Floyd Stadium, where the Blue Raiders can win their first-ever C-USA title. It would be UAB’s first, too.

Why you should watch: These are two really good teams vying for their first-ever C-USA titles. In UAB’s case, the program has never won a conference crown. MTSU won a share of the Sun Belt title in 2001 and 2006, but has never played for the C-USA title since joining the league in 2013. There’s plenty of motivation on each side.

Picks:
Nick: UAB 30, MTSU 20
Sam: MTSU 27, UAB 24

Four of those that are questionable are O linemen...I don't know who usually starts for them but I would suspect they really need them to protect who ever plays QB.

We will be facing a nearly completely different OL this week. UAB had multiple starters out in the last game + had a starter kicked out for throwing a punch in the 2nd quarter. They had to shuffle a lot.

Now they will get a full week of practice with most of their starters. Look for their OL play to be A LOT better. Don't expect our front 7 to have their way like they did last week.

UAB is going to try to run the ball. They know they cannot win exclusively with AJ's arm. They want to establish the run and try to hit the big play action passes. They clearly like their match up's with their WR against our corners. Our corners are going to be on islands and will have to play great. Getting Blankenship back will be huge as he's a great center fielder.

This is going to be a great game. Big time chess match. Both teams know what the other likes to do. Whoever executes and imposes their will is going to win the game.

We've gotta come into the game even hungrier than last week. If our players, for one second, think this will be easy because we spanked them last week, we'll lose. Gotta respect the opponent, Gotta execute the game plan, Gotta make big plays.

Let's go blue.

I don't see it. Even if all of them are back, they won't be 100%. I'd imagine some of them will play sparingly. The one guy that got thrown out wasn't exactly playing lights out. We had a couple sacks at that point. How will we play in the rain? That's the bigger question.

If you think MT wins easy then go bet the farm on MT -1

Very concerning that Vegas has brought the line from 2.5 down to 1. 75% of the cash is on UAB and they want no part of any liability with MT. Was hoping they would hold strong on the line regardless of the action.

I think we will play just fine in the rain. Our offense uses the short passing game, I don't see weather impacting that as long as the field has traction. We already know they want to run the ball, the weather will not change how we defend. Our goal is always to stop the run first.

The only concern is if we can sustain our solid play. If we can, all the adjustments in the world will not make up a 24 point difference.
We have played really well the last 5 games. Keep it up and this will be another win.

Saw on Facebook that CRS was at the student union today handing out tshirts, taking pics, and socializing.

I honestly don’t remember ever seeing that he has done that before. Maybe he has and it just wasn’t shown online. Idk.

I was once told by a BRAA representative that WINNING makes things a lot easier, i.e. fund raising and getting the coaches to actually show up at events.

Stock can make history this weekend and I wouldn't miss that for the world. Maybe this year is the year things start clicking for CRS and his staff for seasons to come.

Winning sure feels better than competing!

S&P+ spread picks for every game in college football’s championship weekend

excerpt:

  • Conference USA Championship: MTSU (-1.5) 26, UAB 24 (Dec. 1, 1:30 PM ET, CBSSN)
What a late surge. The Blue Raiders were 108th in September and lost what appeared to be a key conference battle against FIU. But they closed 5-1, their only loss a competitive one to 9-3 Kentucky. And last week, they stomped West champ UAB, 27-3, in a title game preview.

Despite quarterback and coach’s son Brent Stockstill’s 71 percent completion rate, MTSU’s strength has been defense. The Blue Raiders are 45th in Def. S&P+, and while UAB ranks even higher (26th), MTSU had more than enough to slow UAB’s iffy offense. But we’ll see what tricks the Blazers were holding in reserve — they clinched their spot a while ago and didn’t have to show their whole hand.
