LADY RAIDER BB Middle Tennessee (7-3) at Tennessee Tech (2-5), Sunday 12/10 at 1pm on ESPN+

Coming off the nice win over the Tennessee Lady Vols, MT travels up to Cookeville to take on Tennessee Tech this Sunday at 1pm. Game will be on ESPN+, but it's only about an hour drive from Murfreesboro (half as far as Huntsville!). Would love to see a big contingent of Raider fans again in the stands especially after the program's first win over UT. If there were ever a time to show up and show out on the road, this would be it. A few interesting notes...
  • TTU has one D1 win over Stetson who is 2-7, 65-59 on a neutral floor, but they have been blown out by Ball State (by 33) and Chattanooga (by 25)
  • They're coming off a close loss to Kentucky, 73-67, who is really struggling; they also lost to Mizzou by 1 on neutral floor - can't overlook them
  • We will have a decided height advantage; their tallest player of those playing this year is only 6'1", they only have 3 on roster taller than 6'
  • They allow 69.1 ppg and commit 18 turnovers per game; they also have a near-equal rebounding margin of 31.4 per game and allow 31
Tickets are only $10 per person. Available here: https://prod5.agileticketing.net/we...?epguid=46d35709-ebfe-460b-a446-53bd989d68b6&

You better find a way to be physical...

Some nice things I'm hearing from new coach DM, he wants to be physical....paraphrased below....

---If you're playing finesse offense, you're gonna have a finesse defense.

---Quarterbacks and line of scrimmage play. Those are the two things that effect football more than anything. Every conference is a line of scrimmage conference. Conference USA is a line of scrimmage conference. If you can do that and you have a QB you got an opportunity to get that thing done.

---The team has to be successful up front on both sides of the ball to be successful

Probably a no brainer to anyone with a brain cell that follows football, but games are won and lost in the trenches. Very rarely did we ever win games when we got dominated up front with Stockstill (SDSU comes to mind...) We certainly won't be winning any championships without some war daddies up front. I feel like that is what was always lacking in terms of a championship squad with Stockstill. We could just never field an OL that could get it done for us against the best teams in the league.

Also FYI, our entire starting defense including the DL and half the 2 deep is in the portal or graduated. He's got some major work to do on the defensive side of the ball if we are going to have any chance next year.

FOOTBALL Spoke with a player on the team regarding Derek Mason

"Yes, I met with coach Mason and I like everything about him so far. As we both could understand, he has a lot on his plate with recruiting, staff hires, etc, but he still made the time to speak with me yesterday morning for about 15 minutes. We talked about his vision for the program and how we can work toward success, as well as what he needs from his players and leaders going into the offseason."

He followed saying:
"And he seems authentic. He had about 12 other players waiting outside his office to speak to him, but he took his time with me and made sure we had a good conversation."

Where there’s smoke….

Where there is smoke, there’s a fire…And there seems to be a LOT of smoke around these guys right now

1) Jerry Mack. A 3-time conference champion as a HC and current UTK RB coach, Mack wants to be a HC again. He’s pushing for the job.
2) Scotty Walden : He’s young, energetic, and has done some pretty good things at APSU.
3) Anthony Jones Jr : I think I saw his name mentioned by FBScoop First. He’s a former TN HS HC and current RB coach for TCU.
4) Unnamed ACC assistant : John Brice from footballscoop mentioned an unnamed ACC asst. I believe it’s Alex Atkins, FSU OC but I haven’t been able to verify this
5) Buster Faulkner : Personally, I think Buster is campaigning for this more than he’s a realistic possibility. Buster was fired by Stock (as I understand it) and his offense at GaTech last year wasn’t great. Having someone young and energetic is great…

One thing you’ll notice about ALL of the candidates is a YOUTH movement. If Manny Diaz isn’t the next coach (I think he has a shot for a P5 gig, but we will see), then it seems likely the next HC is going to be under the age of 45.
