CRS listed as potential candidate for APSU job

suckstill's time here was odd. The coaches appeared to be coasting. Were they told to coast? If rick moves to APSU, recruits successfully, and wins the conference, it will be a harsh indictment of the MT administration.

That would be awesome!!!! They go from Scotty Walden to CorpseStill. LOL. You'll see what Scotty really did for them if that happens. The contrast will be undeniable.

Actually the Scoop just dropped this....

Austin Peay (FCS - TN): UCLA tight ends coach Jeff Faris is expected to be the next head coach at Austin Peay ESPN's Pete Thamel has shared. Faris played at Duke and then immediately began coaching there. In total he was at Duke 15 seasons before joining the UCLA staff before the 2022 season.

going to be very expensive for us if he doesn't find a job somewhere else

in his mid 60s no one is seriously consider the man as HC material, especially with the mediocre record he had here. Maybe some buddy among the p5 ranks might throw him a bone, an analyst job where he can do little harm, but with the kind of payout he's getting he just needs to chill on a beach in SC or FL somewhere and enjoy life as a grandfather.

Pretty crazy. He's probably going to make us pay the full amount over the entire life of the remaining contract.

There is language in there that requires him to gainfully seek employment, but it's also realistic that nobody wants to hire him....The lawyers can sort that but it's gonna be very expensive for us I'm guessing.

Good chance this goes down as the largest buyout ever paid by a G5. It would be a fitting end to his coaching time here.

Massaro said we were trying to negotiate a lump sum which would be less than the full 5m to get it off the books or he can be paid the full amount over several years.

There is no offset language in his contract, but a negotiation after a firing is never unusual. Bottom line is yeah he can milk the entire $5+ million, but he wont' see the last penny of it until the summer of 2030. Or perhaps the Univ can get him to take $2 or $3M upfront now to settle the deal.

In a video I watched with Massaro he talked like his contract had offset language.

Hey, state retirement vesting continuation.

Exactly. Some schools force a coach to take the cheaper lump sum by extending the payout over 7-10 years with a non compete. If they take the lump sum that's a couple mill cheaper, they can coach tomorrow. Stock has money so he's probably like screw it, I'll take the 5 mill over the next 7 years unless he wants to coach right now at a FCS school or a high school. I seriously doubt we put a non compete in there.

It’s not a non compete. It’s language that requires him to seek employment if he takes the prolonged payout. He can’t just sit at home and collect for 5 years without trying to find a job. It’s similar to unemployment benefits. He has to make an effort to find a job if wants the prolonged payout.

The other option is the lump sum. But it’s ricks choice if he takes the lump sum or prolonged payout. The school doesn’t get to decide.

We know it's Rick's choice. Some schools force the issue byr drawing it out with other restrictions to get the coach to take the cheaper lump sum buyout. Knowing us, we won't. Personally, I would just take the lummp sum and walk.
