Great recruiter, terrible Xs and Os coach. Very consistent, but his teams tended to underachieve when it matters.
He got fired at MSU because he lost control with some wild recruits and he could never advance past the 1st weekend in the NCAA tourney, even when he had the #2, #3, or #5 seed.
Its probably a good hire by WKU.

Very true. If they are hiring a coach with the expectation of making to the 2nd weekend of the tourney, Stans is not their guy.
If you goal is to be ~20-10 with a few really good/really bad seasons & to have a shot at making some sort of postseason, then Stans is good hire. Essentially, the Toppers are hiring their own version of Kermit. I would expect in 10 years, he makes 2-3 NCAAs and 2-3 other tourneys.
