Skip Holtz is out at La. Tech

I would bet $500.00 that Brent Stockstill could call a better game than Dearmon. As far as HC, he would need to be an OC for a while to get there but I'd throw him in as the OC now. Can't be worse than this Dearmon dude. Brent knows offense and would mix the spread with this RPO stuff pretty well. His energy is good and he's pretty dang smart. I'd be fine with it.
$500 is an interesting amount. I think, as an MT fan, you've been conditioned to do everything at the .500 mark

Can he be a good coach? Maybe, but he needs to go to another school and get some legit experience. The stigma of he wouldn't have that job if not for CRS needs to be scrubbed off. I've heard many fans disgruntled with that hire, right or wrong, it's there.

That's exactly what Shane Beamer did. Held positions at 4 schools before working with his dad for a few years, then coached at 2 others before being hired last year as head of South Carolina. He's spoken many times that he wanted to do his own thing. Now no one questions him running his own program.

If you were to see Rick Stockstill in public, would you suggest it’s time to let another one step in? I would.
I hope I see him at Kroger or somewhere.

At the very least we need a new OL coach. And special teams has been TERRIBLE until this year. I still want Polly fired.

Our football staffing situation is a frustrating one to me. I love our coordinators in Dearmon & Shafer but I do not like some of our position coaches and I do not think Stockstill is a good head coach. In an ideal world, we get a new head coach and position coaches and keep both coordinators..... but that never happens.

The main reason I don't like Stockstill is I believe he is a burden to our offense. He is also not a good game manager as evidenced by the serious lapses in judgement over the last few years with clock management. But my biggest issue is that instead of being an ASSET to our offense or defense, he is a burden. This is a huge problem.

Do you think Hugh Freeze is a burden to his offense? Or do you think he gives invaluable input to his coordinators which helps them game plan better?

Sadly, when I look around CUSA, I see a lot of burdens at head coach. As much as this conference pays it's head coaches, you would think we could hire some bright offensive minds to be HC. It's not rocket science....

I think Stockstill really might like the future of this team too. We've got a lot of young talent on the roster and the incoming signing class looks good. Kyle Lowe just put up a new highlight reel and this kid is going to cause some chaos in G5 football. He reminds me a lot of Dasher but a better arm. He needs to get a little bigger but I really wonder if Kyle Lowe coming to MT has Rick wanting to stay a few more years.

Still won't do any good behind our OL. Even Brent got shelacked. You'd think with him having experienced it, and CRS being a QB himself, they both would want a great OL.

I hope you are right about Lowe. We haven’t had much excitement at the QB position in a long time.

Georgia Southern just announced that Helton is letting everyone go but the interim coach.

Means Geep Wade is now free.

smart to keep Whitney, successful high school coach in GA, that has connections all around the state

Wade was decent with us. We had other problems than him in 14 but he did his thing. We beat Marshall in 2013 and WKU in 2014 with him. We ran a lot more with him. That's for sure.

What's your gut say? Surely Stock has to see what we've all seen.
I can’t figure Stock’s staffing decisions out. He’s landed coordinators from P5 schools (Franklin, Dearmon) and a well respected Shafer with his last DC hire.

For the most part, he’s hired younger guys to serve position coaches during the last 3-5 years.

I can’t figure out why West, Mallory, and Beckles still have jobs. Their units have (for the most let) been a liability under their tutelage. And I’m not a huge fan of Hickman as S&C coach either.
