Stoops was quoted as saying he never thought someone would give an automatic contract extension for only winning 6 or 7 games in a year, but when he saw what his buddy Rick Stockstill got, he knew that he could push for that at Kentucky.**

We supposedly have it “on paper” but when those who have generously agreed to it actually step up still remains to be seen. With Stock’s facilities donation, I can’t see him taking anything less than what’s contractually owed to him (and I can’t blame him) but I could be wrong. Most of us wouldn’t either. And Kentucky will probably be in a position to buyout Stoops if it doesn’t go well. MT made the mistake in not having a realistic way to back out of Stocks contract if it went south. We have no money to pay him to go away.
If you Love the program, you will do what is best for the programThat's a great point. And it's one reason if Stock doesn't retire, he needs to upgrade staff
How many coaches has rick fired over the years? He didn't fire Franklin. If you Love the program, you will do what is best for the program
Even if MT had the money, Massaro isn't firing his buddy. Both came from South Carolina and that's all Massaro knows. Massaro has no aspirations either or he would've been smarter and worked hard to move up. This is no destination school, except for Stock after that outrageous golden parachute Massaro gave him.And Kentucky will probably be in a position to buyout Stoops if it doesn’t go well. I think the last actual firing was Nix and McCorvey in 2016.How many coaches has rick fired over the years? He didn't fire Franklin.
Simmons was arrested for suspicion of aggravated assault. Maybe he was told to resign or get fired and no idea what the outcome of that was.Willie Simmons and David Bibee both “resigned” unexpectedly.
If/when Stock retires, promoting from within this staff wouldn’t generate enough emotion or excitement to fill the Women’s Softball stadium. But given how we have done things since Coach Donnelly left, it wouldn’t surprise me in the least. If he is retiring this year, no doubt they will promote from within. If they were going to do a search, surely they would be smart enough to already announce it with signing day coming up instead of acting like it is business as usual.
No, the extension he signed in 2017 has his contract going through December 31, 2025. So we're on the hook for at least 4 more years unless the money comes in....Does Stock's contract end in 2024? Are we sure of that? And is it after the '24 season? So January '25?

Would it surprise anyone if Dearmon was named HC next year with Stock jr being OC?
I hope he gets a chance somewhere down the road. Maybe after he’s been a full fledged coordinator for a few years.I think Brent would be a good head coach.

I guess it is hard to pinpoint why I feel like he will. Most of the time it’s from an interview for me. I work in sales and feel a head coach is mostly a sales person. He seems to me that he would be good at selling his vision. That translates to a good head coach imo. All FBS coaches know the XOs (at least they should) so it’s about the other things. What’s with the fascination with Brent ? Why does everyone assume he will be a good play caller or head coach ?
I’m not buying it. Was he a good player ? Sure. But the correlation between a good player becoming a good coach isn’t as strong as most think it is.
he’s still got a ton to prove in my eyes before he’s anything more than a position coach.
Middle got the shaft in all aspects with CRS.I guess it is hard to pinpoint why I feel like he will. Most of the time it’s from an interview for me. Sales person?? Our current HC couldn’t give away free T-Shirts or game tickets in the cafeteria. Sadly, someone even posted video evidence of it in here.I guess it is hard to pinpoint why I feel like he will. Most of the time it’s from an interview for me. Let him prove himself as a head coach at a lower level by winning a few national championships, like Brian Kelly.I think Brent would be a good head coach.

Sure, he might be the next nick saban, but he could also be another rick stuckstill. Why do you assume he won't be?
And Saban was an assistant for 17 years before he got his first HC gig at Toledo.Sure, he might be the next nick saban, but he could also be another rick stuckstill.
You absolutely don't know.
Young offensive minded coaches are a hot commodity these days. I really have no clue how Brent is as a coach, but he has worked with Kendall Briles and Lane Kiffin. If he is good I am sure he will get his chance in the SEC soon. And Saban was an assistant for 17 years before he got his first HC gig at Toledo.
I don’t assume anythingWhy do you assume he won't be?
I think guys like Kiffin and Briles having him on staff says that they do at least see potential. Maybe him being here was nepotism, or maybe it wasn’t.I don’t assume anything
I know in big boy lines of work you have to prove yourself 99% of the time. The other 1% is nepotism.

It once was called "seasoning". Brent has very little. Now it's in vogue to expect to move up quickly (or start out at the top) rather than biding your time and proving yourself in every level as you move up.I hope he gets a chance somewhere down the road. Maybe after he’s been a full fledged coordinator for a few years.
He's been in the profession for three seasons, and this is his third stop.I think guys like Kiffin and Briles having him on staff says that they do at least see potential. Maybe him being here was nepotism, or maybe it wasn’t.
Just to clarify I’m talking about Dearmon.I think Brent would be a good head coach.
Not crazy at all.Call me crazy, but being a great play caller on one side of the ball doesn't translate to also being able to run an entire team. There is so much more to juggle. Now as people get experience it tends to even out and then maybe they can do it, but if someone has one great year calling offensive plays at age 27 (as an example) that doesn't show great HC potential (yet). Do that for a few years then maybe you take a chance to run your WHOLE team.
That makes a world of difference... lolJust to clarify I’m talking about Dearmon.
