Although I'm an alum of Middle Tennessee, I really don't understand the hatred for the rich that is common among MT graduates. Perhaps the reason is I took all business courses for my MBA and didn't see any Occupy Wall Streeters in my classes. As you know, I stopped posting on the other board when I realized how many of the posters have deep-seated issues. For example, when I merely defended Tulsa University's desire to align itself with other institutions that share its commitment to academic excellence, one poster actually responded with profane vulgarities. What's worse is he is a contributor to GoMiddle.com. I won't repeat what was posted but the response was one that would only come from someone with serious issues. And the sad part about it is only one poster called him out by saying that he may not agree with me but thought the response was totally inappropriate. I realize I have been highly critical of UT and half of the MT posters are Vol fans, but that is no reason to show so much anger, bitterness, and hatred unless there are many other issues going on.

As Middle Tennessee alums yourself, perhaps you could explain the "hate the rich" mindset of MT supporters because I really don't understand it. As a Kent State alum, I understand the socialist, pro-union culture of Northeastern Ohio and certainly would expect such anti-capitalist views from KSU grads, but not from alums of a southern college. When I occasionally took political shots on the Kent State sports board, I knew only the father's of players from the South would appreciate it. There was one parent from an affluent suburb of Columbus that always appreciated my posts but the political zingers were always received with disdain by all the KSU alums. The reason I was able to get away with it was because I was a major contributor and the moderator and publisher of the site knew my posts were one of the main reasons why viewers visited the site on a regular basis. Now that I'm posting on this board, it's like deja-vu all over again. Except for you two, I've noticed my posts are often received with disdain. Mike, I know you would expect that from New England liberals but would you honestly expect that from MT grads?

Notice the question is for BBJ and Mike to answer. I don't want this to be perceived as an invitation to all the "hate nashvillegoldenflash" posters to spew their hate-filled venom.

Like any group, there are going to be differences in opinions. Almost all grads of any school have a self inflated view of themselves and their university. You couple this with the anonymity of a message board full of male posters and your going to get some wild/crazy responses.

As far as the hatred for the rich, they just want someone to blame. When you can blame someone else then in some sick way it take the focus off yourself. So much of our current economics has very little to do with conservative or liberal ideologies and more to do with global markets and billions more people joining in the competition, our own budgets are busting because of demographic changes. And yet, our politicians focus on creating barriers and hate versus trying to right size programs and compete.

I wouldn't fret it. As Forest Gump said "life is like a box of chocolates, you never know which one your gonna get".

Flash, the only thing I can think of is that comes down to pure greed and human jealously. It's much easier to want to see someone punished who has worked hard for what they've earned than to actually get out and attempt to accomplish the same thing. In other words, people who display class envy are people who are too lazy to get off their rear ends and work hard and sacrifice. In some kind of twisted, perverted way, rather than better their own lot in life, the class envy crowd somehow believes it would somehow benefit them if the producers of this world are punished. However, the reality of the situation is that the producers of this world are the ones who create wealth by providing jobs. Punishment meted out to those who are successful merely trickles down to the middle and lower class and has the net effect of punishing everyone.

Of course, we both know that even the liberal think tanks who create this false illusion realize it's an abject lie. The whole notion is contrived to promote a political advantage. If you can trick the masses into the notion of punishing the rich to achieve "fairness," you've duped the masses to buying into socialism. That's where we're at now, sadly.
