MWC getting blown up

They're all crabs in the bucket - instead of working together, they're killing each other thinking that one of them will get out - and they're all headed to the pot. Too many admins afraid of losing the meal ticket on the athletics gravy train.

100%. It absolutely is completely stupid. The PAC and MWC should just merge, create a performance based payout system and call it a day. If the MWC got $7m before, together with a few more schools from the AAC, plus inflation, they could hit $10m. But instead they are wasting millions.

Now the MWC is going after MAC schools for football only which makes even less sense.

If the MWC UTEP/NMSU and took Toledo/NIU would any of yall be interested in going after MAC schools? I feel like Ball St, Miami OH, and Ohio are teams we could possibly talk into switching over.

I'm up for anything that puts us in a solid place. If it is staying in CUSA, fine. But right now I feel like we are on the outside looking in with no one, our admin or Judy, being proactive. A major shift is coming in a few years and I want us in the 2nd level, whatever that may end up being. I feel right now our conference could get dropped.

Hindsight is 20/20. Granted we jumped to CUSA later than we should have, but who could've guessed that now the SBC makes more money?

We always thought the MAC was the most stable out there and maybe should've taken it. Now? Are they? Who knows.

There just seems to be no forward thinking anywhere around us at all.

Actually pretty genius. UNLV/AF get $22m, then others $10.3m. This doesn't include what will be settled with the P12 poaching lawsuit so the MWC can use that to assist in buyouts for whoever they grab and then go to market for a media deal. They won't get the $7m they had before but they'll get more than us for sure. We are at $800k, MAC $750k, SBC $1m.

Why is Hawaii so low? Is there a deal in place or something for them to get less?

Judy isn't smart enough to do much. She is probably oblivious to all of this going on.

Everyone has. Wait until you see Tarleton State grow over the next 10 years. We all joked about "what the hell is a Tarleton?" when it was rumored they would join CUSA....

Just wait
I will see them 1st hand in a few weeks. I will let you know about facilities

Unbelievable how bad of a place we are in after years of complacency. Nothing to add that hasn't been said or discussed.

My motto - If you don't care, why should I?

Build Blue campaign first order of business is to remove McPhee.

Still being built but the last video I saw was impressive. Looks very professional
It's insane how fast they've done work on that. They've gotten the walls up at least on the side facing the Greenland parking lot by the end of this week

Texas State expected to go to the MWC. Is MT even on the phone trying to better the program and move to a better conference?

I get we don’t have a lot to offer, except for the market potential, but are we even trying? CUSA is a bottom feeder and we seem content with being there.

Given that smith and 7 wood are bottom feeders, they're happy to have the school at the bottom.

What exactly is it you think MT deserves? SBC/AAC is going to take La Tech, WKU, maybe Liberty, maybe even steal a few MAC programs before they look our way.

I think we are right where we belong personally. When you take everything for granted and settle for 6-6 seasons for two decades and invest nothing...well...you deserve to be with other programs doing those same things. CUSA is perfect for MT.

I'd be surprised if they weren't working the phones. The bigger question is why the SBC or anyone wouldn't look at the caller ID and burst out laughing.

We have nothing to offer right now. But maybe in a year or two if we can get off the ground with football and get basketball back on track.

From a commissioners perspective the 2 best things we have to offer is the large infrastructure $$ investment the athletic department has made and the continued growth in the women's basketball program. The women's basketball program offers the greatest opportunity of NCAA post season basketball success compared to any other Sunbelt or CUSA school. Be it either in men's or women's basketball. On a 3rd, but smaller note would be the current tennis facility & its recent accomplishments.
However, I acknowledge the number 1 thing any athletic commissioner is looking for is a sound football program with strong community support.

To be objective, we have a lot going for us. We're a good school in a good growing demographic desirable area. A lot of our smaller/olympic sports are doing well.

But football is the 90% driver of this, with men's bball 5% maybe. The rest of everything falls in that remaining 5%.

I don't even believe the everything else is 5%. Closer to zero than five.

I agree Doug. And to a degree, this is where it is baffling why we can't position better. We are teed up, yet whiff so many times. For over 25 I have heard how moving to 1-A was a no brainer considering most of your aforementioned attributes.

Yet, here we are.

This was also our selling point when we were "Ready to play 1-A" 25 years ago. All that means is in over 2 decades we have done little to capitalize on our potential.

There have been way too many "almost" moments. Almost put together 2 magical seasons (2009 / 2010), but Dasher got suspended.

Almost hired this coach...Or that coach. You can say that about football & MBB. Interesting nugget : In the FBS era, MT has not hired a football head coach with a winning record in his previous 3 seasons as a coach.

Andy McCollum was 4-7 (1996), 2-9 (1997), and 2-9 (1998) as an asst at Baylor
Rick Stockstill was 1-11 (2003), 6-5 (2004), and 7-5 (2005) as an asst at ECU / USC Jr
Derek Mason was 0-8 at Sandy in 2020, 6-7 (2021 at Auburn), 7-6 (2022 at Ok State).

It's led me to ask this to myself, but haven't done so out loud.

Is Mason a grifter? Because if he is that's exactly the type of person that McPhee would just eat up and love all day.

I hope not, but if the cliches and one-liners aren't backed up with substance...

I’m starting to wonder as well. He quit on Ok State from what I recall. Basically a new coaching staff and huge roster overhaul and it’s early but if you have new pieces to work wothwhy can’t you win yet?

I don’t doubt Mason’s sincerity. He seems like a good and descent man. He cares for his players and wants them to graduate. All good things.

We can quibble and discuss re: the state of program and if Mason can take them to the top.

I have my differences with Mason (prefer a more aggressive, innovative offense), but Mason has forgotten more football than I know. Plus, he’s the main in the chair, I’m not.

I’ll voice my concerns and disagreements but I can’t attack a man’s motives and heart.

This has been my reactions and take as well since he was hired. Something just gave me a weird vibe recently but hopefully just a false alarm.

No one can turn around a disaster like this program in a few months.

I don’t know if Mason is the answer. But you can reanimate Knute Rockne and we’d still be sitting at 1 win right now.

For me, I want to see some increasing competitiveness to finish out the year. I want to see the best recruiting class and portal class since the Andy Mac days. Then, next year, we’ll see if we’re moving forward or heading to a reset.

No. He went to Auburn as a DC after Vandy didn’t work out but the whole Bryan Harsin ordeal happened that year and he looked for a better situation to put it nicely. I think Mason will be here for a while as of right now

He could be 12-24 after 3 years and M&M would not fire him. Not their style.

No other D1/FBS school this side of Northwestern gives as much slack and acceptance of losing as MT with M&M in charge.

The Harisin to Auburn was a disaster from the start. Made no sense when hire was announced.

Interesting fact. Since 1999, our first I-A/FBS year, there have been 32 different football playing full time all sports members in CUSA that I counted.

We've been here 11 years. UTEP 19. Since we joined in 2013 there have been 23 different schools and if UTEP leaves, every member left joined 2013 or later.

Let’s hope that UTEP leaves and takes NMSU with them. This would be a win/win for all parties involved!

Nobody wants NMSU. They are staying in CUSA

UTEP leaving opens the door for Judy’s dream school to come on board, welcome Tarleton State to CUSA

LMAOOOO
