...Jacqueline Lux envisioned herself playing collegiate volleyball in the Big Ten.

Circumstances
beyond her control at the University of Maryland kept that from
happening. It's funny how fate works out sometimes.

Once
Maryland fired its volleyball coach, Lux, who was verbally committed
to the program, was able to shop her services elsewhere. What she
found was a plum opportunity in Murfreesboro, Tennessee at a school
that spent nearly two years following her development.

With
its libero graduating early and not returning to school, the Middle
Tennessee State University volleyball program had an unexpected
opening for a defensive specialist. That's when Lux received a new
offer from the university ? a full-ride athletic scholarship that
came with the opportunity to play closer to home and at the Division I
level.

"After (the coach) was fired I wasn't
guaranteed anything," said Lux on Thursday after signing her National
Letter of Intent to attend Middle Tennessee, located near
Nashville. "I didn't want to take the risk (that the new coach would
not want her) because the recruiting season was almost over. So I
went with Middle Tennessee."

As
a sophomore, Lux played club volleyball at Team Indiana for a Middle
Tennessee graduate. That led Lux, who played both libero and
setter at Shelbyville, into the recruitment process.

"Last year, they came and watched me play a couple of times," said Lux. "This year, they contacted me and made an offer."

That
initial offer was a two-year scholarship meaning Lux would have to pay
her own way for two years. It was enough to make her seriously
consider the offer until Maryland stepped into the picture. The
Terrapins, who are joining the Big Ten this Fall, needed a backup
setter and offered Lux a similar deal.

However, the coaching change left Lux in limbo with the program. Middle Tennessee took notice.

In
the end, Lux, currently playing for national powerhouse Circle City 18
Elite, a club program that features several Division I players,
will get her education paid for and have the opportunity to play at the
national level.

"(Middle Tennessee) is one of the
stronger teams in Conference USA which means we will have really good
chances over the next four years to make the (national)
tournament," she said.....
