Ok, for one thing, you never provided proof that she didn't understand about the $3 billion dollars in taxes . That is the assertion I was addressing and you still haven't shown proof that she said it. As far as her and others position on Amazon, why would NYC want to bring in Amazon if they are paying no taxes and are receiving incentives to be there at the cost of the city? Ok, let's look at what you posted... supposedly 25,000 in jobs... Now housing costs go up for the lower income residents. Now many of them have to move because they can be longer afford housing. Let's assume your $30 billion in revenue is correct, I doubt it, but let's run with it, now the city gets to collect $2 billion a year in taxes on the backs of the workers rather than Amazon. So, in the end, the company pays squat, rent and home prices are driven up, and the workers end up paying all the taxes, much of which would go towards infrastructure improvements due to the increase in population. From one perspective, not a good deal. But hey, you know everything, right? She's just an idiot, right? That's the problem with people like you; everyone that doesn't after with you is an "idiot." You have zero ability to look at things from another perspective.
Is this your response to me? Are you serious? Its all over the news in AOC own words that she things the $3B can be spent on other things - NEWS FLASH, without Amazon there is NO $3B to spend - the money is not there.
Let me help you out...share some numbers, knowledge
Jobs - Amazon would have reportedly generated $27.5 billion in city and state revenue over 25 years (THAT IS ACTUAL TAXES PAID) —a 9:1 ratio of revenue to subsidies. This arrangement was predicated on Amazon creating at least 25,000 jobs over the next decade—and up to 40,000—with an average salary of $150,000, the memorandum said. Another 1,300 jobs were in the pipeline for construction and some 107,000 in total direct and indirect jobs were anticipated, according to state estimates.
News flash for you...companies don't pay taxes unless they make a profit so this general ideal that we need to get more from corporations just mean that you and I pay more when we purchase so be careful what you wish for.
Infrastructure - To fund local infrastructure—streets, sidewalks, open space and the like—Amazon planned to utilize the city’s Payment In Lieu of Taxes (PILOT) program, estimated by former Deputy Mayor Alicia Glen at $600 to $650 million over four decades. Amazon would have also built a 600-seat school and 3.5 acres of public, open space along the waterfront at Anable Basin. This looks like a good investment for the city...I travel to NYC each month for business - this area will be changed for the better.
HQ2 was also piggybacking off of city infrastructure investments that were already in the works, or in the midst of being proposed, including $46 million for sewer and water-main upgrades, $60 million for a new school and a new Long Island Rail Road stop, and $180 million in new spending for overall improvements to Long Island City, the city has said.
Incentives: Lets take a look once again...
Amazon was to receive nearly $3 billion in tax breaks, abatement's, and grants. The state was committing up to $1.7 billion in Excelsior Tax Credits and capital grants—again, based on Amazon’s delivery of job and investment commitments. On the city side of things, the Industrial Commercial Abatement Program (ICAP) would have abated approximately $386 million in property taxes, while the Relocation and Employment Assistance Program (REAP) would have been worth $897 million, according to city and state officials.
Incentives aside, the state would have reportedly earned $14 billion in tax returns, and the city would have received more than $13.5 billion in tax revenue over a 25 year period.
For us in Nashville/Boro - I'd take this deal all day long. What you also are not figuring is other investment that would have piggybacked off this...think of what happened to Murfreesboro/Smryna when Nissan built the plant - all kinds of other business came...meanwhile, NYC and NY state are in trouble...they are a high tax state that is losing wealthy folks slowly but surely. Why would the Governor of NY (who is very liberal) be so frustrated?
I sure you will keep up the fight, cause that's the way you roll...
