MT comes in with a 2 game winning streak, FAU on a 3 game losing streak. FAU losing streak began with a home loss to Charlotte followed by 2 road losses. Last time MT played Charlotte was a 63-48 victory at home 01/26. This game showed the Raiders with some offensive difficulties that we as fans were getting concerned about, 3 of 4 quarters had low outputs of 2 quarters with only 7 points & 1 with 11. Despite FAU's recent losing streak they are very athletic & proved to be very competitive in Murfreesboro. The Raiders need to come out strong on both sides of the ball & maintain consistency throughout the whole game to start this road trip.
As pointed out in an earlier discussion, the ladies have developed a bad habit of passing the ball around the perimeter without effectively pushing the ball to the post. This is turning into one of our major flaws to become an elite team. Coaching staff must address this issue. As the season winds down Thursday will be a great opportunity to start getting our posts more involved before heading into tournament play.

Former Blue Raider Marcus Byrd is in the field at the Genesis Invitational this week.

I believe he got in on an exemption. ESPN+ just did a nice piece on him.

After reading today about Mike Norvell’s new FSU contract extension thru 2029 at $8MM per year. He guided FSU thru the 2 years of COVID while running off a host of Taggart’s leftover problems to a 10-win season in Year 3.
It made me remember our Dir. of Football Operations running the “Stock to FSU campaign” in 2019 pitching CRS to his former lettermen buddies. Had he been successful in pulling off that initiative, maybe Mike Norvell is still in Memphis for the Cotton Bowl and a couple of more seasons.
Maybe we’d have a young fireball HC in Murfreesboro who turned the ship around while FSU would have a long term contract problem with a former player who is fine with finishing .500 as long as he gets his players a bowl trip.

Had a family member talk to Stock yesterday at the groundbreaking event. Stock said that Jaylin Lane was offered a $100,000 NIL deal from VT. It will be so hard for MT to retain our top talent every year with this kind of $$ being thrown around.

I also heard several months ago that we had a pretty big donor step up to the plate for men's basketball. I think we were all surprised that we didn't have anyone leave the team after last year. It turns out that the donor is paying each player $30k a year to stay with the program.

I just read where NMSU just killed off their basketball program for serious hazing issues. This is extremely disappointing since we are going to be conference mates.
