UNIVERSITY NEWS MT's lack of political power

This is from a Q&A article in the Tennessean with House Speaker Cameron Sexton
https://www.tennessean.com/story/ne...iminal-justice-nashville-memphis/69791358007/

How confident are you in the House approving money for remodels at FedExForum and Liberty Stadium in Memphis?

Sexton
: "Liberty Bowl and FedExForum are used by the University of Memphis, so my big thing is trying to help them get into a power five conference. There are certain things that those conferences said that you have to upgrade, like minimum required upgrades. It'd be great for Memphis to be in the power five because that would help Tennessee and Memphis grow. The upgrades at FedEx would also help the Grizzlies, but they are not asking for a rebuild. It's all remodeling. We've done this at Neyland Stadium and a lot of different remodeling for colleges before."

Why is there no one pushing for MT to get into a power conference or making upgrading our stadium a priority. Sexton is not even from Memphis he is from Crossville. I know it's been brought up multiple times before, but it is astonishing the lack of political clout MT has.

Where's the Staff's EATT?

This is what kills me about our staff. They preach it but they damn sure don't do it in recruiting. Too much low hanging fruit out there available for the pickin. So, Walker Merrill entered the portal from UT. Localish kid. Out of Brentwood. A low 4-star rating. Never even received an offer from us out of HS. He did from UAB. And Memphis. And App State. And Charlotte. But not us. Think he's going to give a G5 much attention that didn't even bother to offer him out of high school? SMH.

This is indicative of one of three reasons why we have a. 500 program.

FOOTBALL I was not aware of this…….anyone else?

Early life and high school

Stetson Bennett IV was born on October 28, 1997, in Atlanta, Georgia. In first grade, his family moved from Atlanta to Nahunta, Georgia. In eighth grade, his family moved to Blackshear, Georgia, where he played high school football at Pierce County High School.[4][5] There, he led the school to three consecutive state playoff appearances, throwing for 3,724 yards, running for 500 more and scoring 40 total touchdowns as a senior. Bennett was merely a two-star quarterback coming out of high school and his only FBS scholarship offer came from Middle Tennessee State as coaches thought he was too short and too light—he was 5 feet 9.5 inches (1.765 m) and 185 pounds (84 kg) at the time.

College career

2017

Bennett was a walk-on at Georgia his freshman season.

He did not take a snap the whole season. After five-star high school quarterback Justin Fieldscommitted to Georgia in 2018, Bennett decided to transfer to Jones County Junior College.”

FOOTBALL Thoughts on Deion at Boulder?

We discussed it in the GoMiddle staff group chat. I'm very intrigued to see how the Deion at Colorado saga unfolds. I think he will be a. good recruiter. @AustinLewis has pointed it out and it's true. you can get by with 8-4 at Colorado. Compared to schools like Auburn where they may run Freeze off if he doesn't consistently win 10....

I don't know the full scope of academics and admissions at CU but I'm banking on Deion getting the job done.

FOOTBALL G5 Conferences and their Bowl Performances

After all of the bloodshed, here's how it all went down.

AAC - 3-3 with Tulane left to play USC so let's go with 3-4 (Memphis finally wins a bowl game.)

CUSA - 3-3 (MT, WKU and UAB get it done UTSA, UNT and Rice crapped the bed) Congrats to NMSU! Good for them. First bowl win I think.

MAC - 4-3 (OHIO, Toledo, Buffalo and EMU get it done)

MWC - 3-4 (Fresno, Boise and USAF get it done)

SBC - 3-4 (USM waits to leave CUSA before they finally have a pulse, Marshall gets the W and Troy gets one too.) Looks like the mighty SBC isn't all that mighty.

So the winner of the G5 bowl season is the MAC. Isn't that the conference a bunch of people on here didn't want us to join? Hmmmmm.

Now we get to play with powerhouses like Kennesaw St. and whoever U. CUSA wasn't the worst yet again. UTSA and UNT could have easily put us at the top. What this really shows the parity that truly exists within the G5. We think one conference is so much better than the other and they really aren't. If bowls are the pinnacle and true measurement, these results show how even it really is. Next year, it could be different with the better teams from CUSA going to the AAC but, I don't think it will.
