Rick Cochran was named the Sun Belt Conference Golfer of the Month after finishing in the top 5 in the fall's first 2 tournaments.

10-12-96:
In Murfreesboro, the Raiders (3-3, 1-2) beat Austin Peay 50-14. Dee Mostiller scored 2 TDs. Kelverick Green and Jonathan Quinn had touchdown runs, and Johnny Baker had his first career TD.

Bill Burkett, George Frost and Barry McClure became the newest members to be inducted into the Blue Raider Hall of Fame.
Burkett, from Watertown High School, led the nation in passing accuracy in 1941. He volunteered for the U.S. Army in the spring of 1943. His division landed at Normandy Beach as part of the D-Day invasion. On August 28, 1943, he was killed by sniper fire while his unit was surrounding German forces on the Brest Peninsula in France.
Frost was a 3-year letterman in football in the mid 50's and a 2-year starter, playing end on offense and defense..
McClure was a 7-time NCAA All-American, excelling as a triple-jumper. He set NCAA records in 72 and 73 and won an NCAA Championship in 1973.

In Murfreesboro, MT (2-4, 1-2) beat Akron 24-12 in the Zips last season in the OVC. Touchdowns were scored by Dwight Stone (2) and Gerald Anderson. The Raider defense had 4 interceptions from Robert Mullins (2), Darrion Thomas and Roosevelt Colvard. Rodney Hart had 13 tackles.

10-9-76:
In Richmond, KY, the Raiders (3-3, 1-1) lost 40-14 to Eastern Kentucky. MT was held scoreless in the 1st half and the first score was on a 14 yard return of a partially blocked punt by Ronnie Cecil. The other score was a Mike Robinson pass to Vincent Harris. Joe Dunster had 14 tackles and blocked a punt, and was named OVC Defensive Player of the Week.

10-15-66:
In Chattanooga, TN, the #5 ranked Raiders (4-1) lost 5-0 in a “mudbath” to Chattanooga, ending MT's 18 game winning streak.

60 Years Ago This Week
10-13-56:
In Murfreesboro, MT (4-1,3-0) beat Morehead St. 20-12. All three touchdowns were from the rushing game by Jerry Kemp, Terry Sweeney and Tillman Harris. Sweeney rushed for 108 yards in the game. Nicky “the Greek” Coutras and Ed Carson were recognized as having outstanding defensive games.

In Jackson, TN, MT (2-0-1) beat Union University 14-7. Angelo Varallo scored both touchdowns on passes from Leonard Staggs and Wilburn Burkett.

In Murfreesboro, MT (2-1) beat Troy 19-0. Bubber Murphy had a 60-yard touchdown run on the first play from scrimmage. He also had touchdown runs of 22 and 30 yards.
