We all complain about how MT is treated by both The Board of Regents and The Tennessee Higher Education Commission. Interesting news this weekend that Murfreesboro lawyer Evan Cope has been appointed Chairman of the THEC. If the name Cope is familiar to you: yes, Evan Cope is the grandson of Quill E. Cope who was both TN Ed Commissioner and Pres. of MT.

I have no idea how connected and loyal this Cope is to MT or what the impact will be on MT but it can't be a bad thing that a M'Boro resident and grandson of a MT Pres who has the Admin. Bldg. named for him is Chairman of the THEC.

Thoughts, more info?

That's what I wondered and the reason why I questioned how connected and loyal to MT he could be expected to be. His academic background was not mentioned in the article in The Tennessean.

Perhaps some other poster could give more info on Cope's background.

excerpt:

...Mr. Cope is a graduate of the Webb School in Bell Buckle, Tennessee, and
received his undergraduate degree in political science, with a minor in
history, from Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee. While at Rhodes,
Mr. Cope completed the British Studies at Oxford University program
during which he studied British history and government. Mr. Cope
graduated from the University of Memphis School of Law where he received
the Dean's Award for Academic Excellence in Trial Advocacy and served
as a member of the Moot Court Board. While in law school, Mr. Cope
clerked for the Honorable Robert L. (Butch) Childers, judge of the
Circuit Court of Tennessee at Memphis.......
