This long-suffering MT fan is ambivalent about continuing the series and not necessarily because The Raiders were embarrassed in each game in the recent series.
Twenty +/- years ago when the first three games in the modern era were set there was excitement among MT fans who were basking in the anticipation of what the move to D-1 in FB was to bring. The mid-state media thought this game would be an exciting tip-off (if played early) each year to the FB season and peak the interest of both fan bases and the mid-states' casual fans. Capacity crowds were expected for what was to be a highlight of the sports season and the entire mid-state was to be caught up in the excitement.
And then, and then, and then, so much happened to relegate this game to just a blip on the sports calendar, not the least of which were the arrival of the NFL to the market and the ESPNing of sports media.
Additionally, with the decrease in the size of MT's fan base (not that VU's is that much larger) along with the fact that VU's fans don't travel to see their teams play a so-called $#&-major in either BkB or FB regardless of each team's expectations or where the game is played (remember when we thought the game would become so big it would be played at Nissan annually?) attendance is a joke for two D-1 FB schools 40 minutes apart.
And lastly I agree with FranklinRaider315: We have a coach who considers early non-conference game as exhibitions (He said so) even if one is a local rival for whom one should do everything possible to win if for no other reason than bragging rights. I don't think Stock has any idea of how much the outcome of such a game has on the fan base, attendance, donations, etc. There is no reason for MT to pursue the series until we have a coach who pulls out all of the stops on all opponents and does everything he can to excite, energize, and grow the fan base.
