FOOTBALL wku coach fired after just two seasons

Yeah but if they kept him another 11 years he would have a chance to win an outright championship.

It’s Massaro’s super secret success plan. Give a coach a ~decade of winning 52% of games until lightening strikes in a championship. No other AD in the country outside of Northwestern attempts to use this strategy.

In all fairness Sanford was not close to .500 football though. Even Massaro would have fired him after year 5.

I did read that WKU may have reached out to Hugh Freeze about their opening.

Freezus and The recruiter at the same university- Bible verses + escorts + “integrity” recruiting all around.

It's no secret. He has stated publicly that he believes in giving coaches a long time to be successful.

Let's see what kind of low life they tab as coach this time. Petrino or Freeze fit the bill...and would fit in nicely with Stansbury.

Freeze is not on their radar, he was their entire coaching search before Helton expressed interest. From what I've heard, they've been talking with him for weeks now. He might be announced in a couple of days. FWIW

It's going to be Helton, word out of Knoxville just a few minutes ago.

As a Knoxvillian who also follows UT closely, I've been unimpressed with him this year. That said, it's tough to make chicken salad out of the chicken $hit roster that UT had, so, who knows.

ESPN has been pimping Helton but Freeze has been in talks with them. Could have fallen through with Freeze but they were in talks. Helton will work out for WKU better than UT because of the spread minded conference he'll be in plus he coached there when they won the first championship in '15 and beat an undefeated Marshall in 14'. Good hire.

Not sure how Helton will do (always a gamble with an O.C.). I am reading a lot of Freezus going to the SEC as an O.C. (Tennessee or Auburn) or I could see Freeze going to Louisville as well.

Very interested in who Charlotte will be able to get as their new HC.

HE was WKU's OC in 2014 and 15. He did ok. LOL.

Being a coordinator is much different than HC.

Remember, Will Muschamp had the best D in the country at LSU and A top 3 D at Texas before his first HC job at Florida, and he failed miserably. Kevin Wilson had the best offense in the country prior to his first HC at Indiana and he failed. Joe Moorhead is supposedly an offensive guru and his first year at Mississippi State has been awful offensively. Only reason they went 8-4 is that he has one of the top 10 scoring defenses in the past decade.

What I am saying is there is no guarantee in the jump from Coordinator to HC & no Jeff Brohm (it was really Jeff’s offense) to help this time.

It is but he knows what he will want to run at WKU and he will emulate Brohm. He couldn't do that with Pruitt. Pruitt told him that he wanted more of a pro type style which is why it probably didn't work. This dude is a spread/speed guy. He will be an upgrade over Sanford. He knows how to develop a QB too. UT's QB was horrible but he helped him be better than he's ever been there. The QB's WKU has fits his system much better.
