LADY RAIDER BB Transfer Portal Tracker

C-USA Transfer Portal Updates:

What’s the signing deadline for portal players? Any insights on offers or calls to anyone?

Players have until 4/22 to enter the portal. I'm unaware of a deadline for players to sign.

Now that the Final Four dead period (restricted to HS recruiting) ended last week I anticipate the traffic to pick up on campus with visits/recruits soon. Since the grand majority of transfers have entered the portal and they've gauged interest, they'll starting nailing down a big board themselves. They want experience in the post to supplement Dominguez's development, a starting PG (only if it's the right fit), and/or high-volume scoring combo guard. I still think all of those options are still available on my board. The market for star-potential in the frontcourt is already very thin so I'm not expecting a big splash, but experience is key to such a young locker room.

Makes sense, and I'm glad the targeted group is how you've described. Interested to hear soon who we're getting offers out to, and who comes for visits.

It doesn't seem like we are serious contenders for anyone out there. Makes me think coaches are going to be going overseas again to get a few players.

  • Lizzy Williamson, NC State C (6-5 SR)
    • Plagued with injuries since joining NC State. 2023 WAC DefPOY for Southern Utah averaging a double-double as a rJR.
  • La'Nya Foster, Austin Peay G (5-9 SO)
    • 2024 ASun Freshman of the Year. Averaged nearly 12 ppg, 7 rpg for the Govs. Very good defender.
Adding more players to keep an eye on.

Williamson would be a nice addition with her 6-5 frame, but her injury history is concerning. If healthy, I think she could pick up right where Nas left off from her tape at Southern Utah.

Foster could be impactful for defensive playing time. Her shooting numbers don't impress me (26% from 3). However, at 5-9 and very strong defensively (44 steals, 39 blocks in '24-'25) she could challenge for playing time immediately.

Yeah, I’d like to hear some contact and offers to these transfers. On3 hasn’t reported us being involved with anyone I’ve seen to this point which is a little concerning.

Has word gotten out to players by opposing coaches about minimum playing time being allotted to MT women's basketball athletes?
If I was an opposing mid-major coach I would definitely use that against MT in recruiting battles.

I noticed Scott hasn't officially committed to one of the power schools yet. Is she rethinking her position on transferring?

Yes, a post with some experience. If the pickings get slim, you may opt for an undersized big, but I believe experience is the priority in the post.
That makes sense, given who we’ve got coming in (and our stable of returnees). Hopefully these visits this week will pay dividends and get a commit from one of those posts.

  • Sakima Walker, South Carolina C (6-5 SR)
    • Former NJCAA Player of the Year at Northwest FL JC, averaging 17 points, 8 rebounds. Played limited minutes off the SC bench last 2 seasons.
  • Paris Gaines, Georgia Southern C (6-3 SO)
    • Injured midway through '24-'25, but averaged 7 points, 5 rebounds in 16 games. 50% FG shooting with range.
  • Faith Acker, Tarleton State C (6-3 SO)
    • Started in 27 games and averaged over 21 minutes/game. Good low post scoring touch with 52% FG and 9 ppg.
With Weathersby off the board, the frontcourt options are dwindling. Adding 3 more players I think could foot the bill. Walker is a bit of a reach but being in the portal this long and not playing more than 11 minutes LY she could fall to the mid-major ranks in her final season of eligibility. Gaines I believe would be a bit of a project and doesn't necessarily fill the "veteran" tag. I like Acker on paper -- high minutes, previous All-Freshman, four double-doubles, and a 21-point game LY.
