BASKETBALL The Auburn basketball game...

I would rather those FBI resources be reallocated to tax reform than chasing pampered athletes and shady coaches. This ish is so silly. Of all the things our federal government should be doing the least should be trying guys in a federal court and sending them to jail for up to 80 years for nonsense made up crimes. These athletic department need to stop hiding behind a BS non profit tax shelter and call a spade a spade.

Pearl is as dirty as they come. Auburn fans/administration should have been expecting this.

UL is a dumpster fire. I doubt Kermit would even entertain that mess. Do you guys think that they are gonna be hit with tons of sanctions by the NCAA?

Kermit is a smart, genuine person. He wouldnt think twice about turning it down. He wouldn't be able to fart without a report being written up.

Serious question - UL was put on probation on June 15. The same month, June 2 they set up the $100,000 in payments and according to the Courier-Journal, Rick was "coach-2".

Isn't that getting really, REALLY close to what SMU did to get the death penalty? SMU paid plays and got put on probation. Then continued to pay players they had promised money while on probation. I guess UL missed being on probation by 2 weeks, but to have the HC be involved in a pay a player so blatantly that close to the escort scandal.....that's about as close to a death penality move since SMU. It just seams that UL will get absolutely slaughtered by the NCAA when they use all the FBI's notes against UL. Plus UL defended Rick's integrity in the first hearing.

I don't see why any coach would go there with that kind of potential hammer hanging over your head.

Loserville probably didn't fear the NCAA so they kept on keeping on. The FBI is the difference maker here, IMO

In the pre FBI investigation world of college basketball, Louisville calling on Kermit would seem like a situation where MT would have to replace the HC. Being that Louisville likely has a huge ax hanging over their neck now, I would be pretty surprised if Kermit seriously entertained that position.

It seems it will likely require 1 if not 2 heach coaches at Louisville to steady the program just before being released.

David Padgett was hired at Louisville. When they make these hires it is usually just for a year to right the ship. Kind of funny/sad. I was brought up a Kentucky fan. Coach Sutton drove the program into NCAA penalty and enter Pitino who did an amazing job considering what he was left with. Sad he has turned out the way he has. Scandal after scandal.

I'm glad we didn't end up with Pearl like we almost did. We would have probably had some NCAA infractions had he been here.

Yep, his arrogance just may have ended up saving MT from a bunch of headaches in the long run. I'd much rather have a HC who struggles to a .500 record honestly, decently, and with integrity than winning and championships by deceit, cheating, and no integrity.

Interesting for us younger guys at what point were we looking at this scum bag as a coach?

This was when we hired Kermit. From what I've heard, we offered Pearl the job and it was understood that he was going to take it. When he flew back home he realized he didn't want the job. I believe we also offered the it to Gregg Marshall.

No, Bruce Pearl was the favorite to be hired from in 1996 when Randy "asleep at the" Weil was ultimately hired. Pearl was a very successful head coach at DII University of Southern Indiana, but got cold feet at taking the MT job. IIRC, he would not answer any calls from Lee Fowler after the interview...

This is correct. This all happened well before the Kermit hire.

Boots hired Kermit over Gregg Marshall

For all of the frustrating elements about Boots admin tenure, his basketball coach hiring tendencies and preferences were pretty darn impressive. Kind of funny considering he was a football guy.
