Polling Favors GOP

Most voters think the GOP will come out on top at the polls in less than two weeks. Do you think the GOP has what it takes?

A brand new Associated Press-GfK poll finds that while most Americans have a negative impression of the Republican Party, they think they'll take control of the Senate.

Voters aren't all that pleased with Democrats either, with views of the party souring over the last month and trust on main issues waning.

What are those main issues?

The economy is by far the most important issue for voters, and by an eight-point margin the voters trust the GOP to handle this issue. Over 60% of Americans describe our economy as "poor," which is amazing consider Obama has been bragging about the economy in an attempt to shift election focus.

But here's a key shift in the polls that should concern a lot of Democrats: "Women have moved in the GOP's direction since September. In last month's AP-GfK poll, 47 percent of female likely voters said they favored a Democratic-controlled Congress while 40 percent wanted the Republicans to capture control. In the new poll, the two parties are about even among women, 44 percent prefer the Republicans, 42 percent the Democrats."

This isn't all that surprising if you consider the latest poll numbers on Barack Obama. A recent Washington Post-ABC News poll found Obama's support from his key coalition - women, young people, minorities - to be slipping. In particular, disapproval among women is near an all-time low of 50%.

Obama's slipping approval among these key groups is precisely the reason why vulnerable Democratic candidates have gone to great lengths to avoid being associated with him and his agenda.

Chris Matthews even compared it to Obama having Ebola: "It's like Obama has Ebola. I wasn't near him! I didn't touch him!"

And even The Times wrote in an editorial today: "They run the risk, though, of alienating important constituencies who prefer a party with a spine, especially black voters, who remain very supportive of Mr. Obama. By not standing firmly for their own policies, Democrats send a message to voters that the unending Republican criticism of the president is legitimate."

Democratic New Hampshire Senator Jeanne Shaheen is another one of those who has joined the ranks of candidates who refuse to answer questions about supporting Barack Obama. The audience actually laughed at her dodging answer at her latest debate against Scott Brown.

But at least Shaheen showed up for her debate. North Carolina Democratic candidate Kay Hagan couldn't be bothered to even show up for her last debate against Thom Tillis.

And that leads to our last piece of news about the upcoming election, which is this controversial mailer being circulated by the Democratic Party in Georgia. The party is circulating get-out-the-vote flyers featuring young African-American children holding signs that say "Don't shoot." The flyer reads: "If you want to prevent another Ferguson in their future … Vote. It's up to you to make change happen."

It's pretty unbelievable the lengths Democrats are willing to go to, and their desperation is really showing.
