I've always been somewhat concerned that MT (and the athletic program specifically) couldn't make better inroads in getting substantial financial support from Nissan and Firestone/Bridgestone since they are both in Rutherford Co. Now that Nissan has joined Bridgestone in naming a professional sports venue in Nashville it is clear that that ship sailed a long time ago.

The Titan's contract with LP was for a reported $3 million but details of Nissan's agreement weren't available IIRC. Sure wish just a little of that was supporting the local univ.

Gotta think Smyrna sees itself as a suburb of Nashville rather than a part of the county just a many people/businesses in Brentwood have no allegiance to anything in Williamson county or Hendersonville to Sumner. I guess it is what it is.

I never thought there was a chance in hell that we could let Nissan have the naming rights to our stadium.

Guess I should have indicated that I wasn't looking for naming rights to any venue since IIRC it is against either state law or policy not to grant naming rights to on campus venues at state supported institutions in TN.

Rather, my post was a lament at the fact that the MT athletic dept. can't get more support for it's D-1 athletic program from the two most well known (world wide) businesses in Rutherford County. Their lack of support just shows, once again, the Blue Raiders place in the pecking order of mid-state's sports.

I thought Bridgestone was up by the airport in Davidson County?

Nonetheless, I wouldn't worry too much about it. In fact, i've completely stopped worrying about stuff like attendance, budget, sponsors, whatever.

As Average Joe Fan, that's all out of my control. I do as much as I can when it comes to buying tickets and merch and donating to to MT and the BRAA, and hopefully, everyone else is too.

we need to have a good showing at Bama, then beat Ill and dolly whop the dores and and when 9 games and the recognition will come in the state. Hopefully get a match up in the bowl games against some household name and open a can of whoop a$$.

It's time for the Perfect Storm for MT. A nine win season with a Bowl Win would mark the Greatest Season in Modern Raider History. To get to 9, at the very least you would have a victory over either a BIG 10 or SEC opponent or both!
It would also mark only the second Bowl win in our 16 year FBS journey. I believe it is doable. Go Big Blue!

I meant to post this earlier before being out of pocket for a while. On Monte's show (7-2-15 - Podcast available on WGNS) he and Hertzer had an in-depth conversation on MT's inability to secure a heavy hitter donor with the emphasis on Nissan. Interesting thoughts.

I remember a couple or three years ago there was a big announcement to be about a big gift from Nissan, IIRC, it was a handful of electric cars. Remember being disappointed, but not really surprised. Nissan is sort of like the Tennessee Titans. The owners don't live here.
