excerpt:

...We have some Conference USA action on the hardwood Thursday night, as the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders take on the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers.

The Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders will be looking to build on their solid 12-1 conference mark to sit atop the conference standings after defeating Charlotte last time out. JaCorey Williams led the team with 21 points on 9 of 16 shooting in addition to 10 rebounds for the double-double. Giddy Potts came 2nd with 17 points on 7 of 12 shooting with a pair of steals and 6 rebounds while Reggie Upshaw chipped in 14 pointes and 8 boards in the win. Tyrik Dixon also chipped in 9 points and team-highs of 3 steals and 3 assists for the Blue Raiders on the night. Williams leads the team with an average of 17.1 points and 7.5 rebounds per game this season, while Dixon remains the team’s top assist man, dishing out 3 assists per game this season. As a team, Middle Tennessee State is scoring 72.9 points per game on 48.3% shooting from the floor, 36.3% from behind the arc and 66.8% from the foul line this season.

The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers will be looking to pull back to .500 overall this season, but will need to be consistent after alternating wins and losses in their last 4 games. The Hilltoppers fell to Marshall last time out by a final score of 84-79, with Que Johnson leading the team with 17 points on 6 of 10 shooting including 3 triples. Justin Johnson came 2nd with 14 points on 7 of 12 shooting in addition to 11 rebounds for the double-double while Pancake Thomas followed right behind with 13 points. Anton Waters chipped in 10 points while Ben Lawson added 7 points and a pair of blocks in just 11 minutes on the floor. Justin Johnson leads the team with an average of 14.1 points and 8.8 rebounds per game while Junior Lomomba leads the team in assists with 3.4 per game this season. As a team, Western Kentucky is scoring 69.8 points per game on 44.1% shooting from the field, 35.4% from behind the arc and 67.4% from the foul line this season.

Middle Tennessee is 15-5 ATS in their last 20 games overall and 12-4 ATS in their last 16 conference matchups while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 games following a win. Western Kentucky is 3-7 ATS in their last 10 conference matchups and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 home games while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 games against a team with a winning record. Middle Tennessee is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 trips to Western Kentucky.

Middle Tennessee is looking like last year’s squad that beat Michigan State and look poised to go deep in the tourney if they make it. Western Kentucky has struggled this whole season with consistency, and have had barely any success when hosting the Blue Raiders. Middle Tennessee should cruise to a double-digit road victory in this one.....

Inspiration from CBS Sports announcer who said of J Williams when he was going nuts in scoring and rebounding, "Release the Kraken" Williams was, indeed, the Kraken to WKU tonight.
Put Stansbury on the MT media relations payroll

No doubt! Too bad many a sports fan in the area aren't seeming to appreciate the impressive quality team they could be making it out to see this season. This team is one heck of an enjoyable team to watch play basketball. As with most of the other teams for MT the last 5 or 6 years, they are teams and seasons most of us could only dream of for many years.

Man...it seems UAB has folded like a cheap tent this year. I can't imagine they are too happy with their coach.

On another note, we better come to play at Marshall. They waxed us there last year.

Other than the first 5 minutes or so, when we couldn't hit the broad side of a barn, last night's game was GREAT! Love putting a beat down on the Toppers like that! Announcer's plan was obviously to gush over EVERYTHING Justin Johnson did in the game.
