...Coming up from Ted Constant Convocation Center on Thursday, the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders and the Old Dominion Monarchs will be meeting up on the college basketball circuit.

Middle Tennessee enters this game with a 16-5 record overall. The Raiders have won their last three games straight, most recently taking out UTEP. In that one, Middle Tennessee’s Brandon Walters led the way on 17 points.

Nick King is the top scorer for Middle Tennessee this year with 21.2 PPG and a team-high 7.9 RPG. Also in double-digits are Giddy Potts (12.9 PPG) and Walters (10.8 PPG; 5.6 RPG).

As for Old Dominion, they’re sitting at 16-4 this year. The Monarchs have won their last four straight games, and beat Charlotte in their last outing. In that game, Old Dominion guard Randy Haynes logged 24 points.

Heading up the scoring for Old Dominion this year is Ahmad Caver with 14.7 PPG, while BJ Stith is close behind at 14.5 PPG. Also in the double-digit club for the Monarchs are Trey Porter (13.4 PPG; 6.3 RPG) and Haynes (12.0 PPG).

Middle Tennessee is 24-9 ATS in their last 33 versus Conference USA and 35-16 ATS in their last 51 games overall. The Raiders are also 21-10 ATS in their last 31 games following an ATS win and 4-1 ATS in their last five following a straight-up win.

Meanwhile, the Monarchs are 9-19 ATS in their last 28 games following a straight-up win and 2-5 ATS in their last seven overall. ODU is also 3-8 ATS in their last 11 versus Conference USA and 3-13 ATS in their last 16 Thursday games.

Middle Tennessee has won eight of their last nine games, and though most of their victories have come by sizable numbers, there have been a few close calls mixed in there.....

Agreed, need to show this to the team...we are going to get ODU's best shot. Really need Walters to come up big against the better teams and like to see Potts average about 16-18 a game for the rest of the year.

We've been playing really good defense. I think if we shoot well we win this game. We can't have some of these long droughts that we occasionally have that get us in trouble. We need to be consistent on the offensive end.

Middle Tennessee and Old Dominion, two of the three top teams in Conference-USA along with Western Kentucky, will battle it out Thursday. Middle Tennessee is looking to get back to the top of the conference while the Monarchs are hoping to prove that they belong. Looking at the matchup though, both teams have their strengths. Neither team is strong behind the arc but the Blue Raiders ranked 11th in the nation in opponents three-point field goal percentage. The Blue Raiders have been shooting 50.4 percent from inside the arc but will be facing against a Top-5 defense in that area with the Monarchs. One other factor to watch is the experience the Blue Raiders have, ranked 10th in the nation in average experience (2.45 years).
