Is there enough in the budget to get rid of the high school bleachers?

That's part of the master plan for sure. Who knows if it will happen with this as there may be some restrictions to focus on academic areas first. But the eventual plan is to remove the bleachers and install revenue generating box seats. I'm sure the new entry across from the SAPC can be included considering MC is used for high school graduations as well.

On the main BuildBlue page there is an artist's rendering of the inside.

I was told the state is holding MT back though.
As I understand it : it's in the budget. It still has to go through the proper approvals, but Lee signed the budget a few weeks ago (if I'm not mistaken). That's a huge step. I don't see a way the Governor signs it and the building approvals say no, but it's always possible.

I fully expect some - if not all - of the bleachers to go away or be replaced with something more modern, visually appealing, and functional.

Personal, I'd love to see sideline box seats, a Hendrix type club along one baseline and a Clippers like "WALL" along the other baseline. Wouldn't hate it if they found a way to create a second level later down the road.

I get it... They are probably fed up with footing the bill for this crap show of an athletic department. As a parent of a student, I am sick of it as well.

They suck, do nothing to get better, hire inept coaches in men's sports. Then make the kids with the least money on campus foot the bill. Then, they go out here acting like all is fine and dandy, like they actual won a conference title.

Does any of our athletic teams actually make money or even break even? Referencing the main ones of course.

For 2024-2025, 1/3 of the $1,031, or $313 goes to Athletics. $86 per hour, and every student who takes 12 hours pays this maximum amount. I wonder how many students take advantage of free tickets to watch MTSU Athletics?

Unfortunately for students, that's the game and the game is rigged.

Small solace I'm sure, but there are athletic departments who are far more subsidized by student fees than ours.

I do wonder when that tap is just going to break - you can only hit them so much. Especially for us and our peer schools who might not have the affluent student/family base that someone like UT or Vandy has. We're sort of the working class folks college in our state - nothing wrong with that, IMHO - society needs more nurses and teachers and small business folks far more than it needs moar lawyers or gender studies grads with 200k in student debt.

The students should take advantage of the "free" stuff that comes with these fees. Society does the same when you graduate - you pay taxes - you lose if you don't visit those National Parks you're paying for. You're going to take a haircut on your paycheck for health/dental, etc insurance - you lose if you don't go get those check ups. But I digress.

The admin needs to do a better job of providing value in the form of competitive teams and reasons to show up.

I just look at ULL, Ark St built while swirling around the toilet and then they took off. ULL just tore down the home side and rebuilt it.
Same goes for Tn Tech... Tore down the visitor side to do a complete rebuild with a very nice brick facade, not aluminum. Once this side is complete, the other side will come down and rebuilt.

They were at the bottom for years with bad hires, Watson Brown for one, but this recent head coaching hire has crushed it. Took Middle to get a miracle on the last play of the game to win and they won a share of the OVC. I think they may have made the playoffs but would have to double check that. I know it's 1-AA, but a good hire is a good hire.

Agree, it would be an easier pill to swallow if they were competitive year in and year out, winning some championships along the way. I think for kids nowadays, they are being asked to foot part of the bill for kids who are now getting paid to lose games.

The overall experience for my kid has not been the greatest. She joined a sorority her freshmen year and her experience was awful, nothing like the one her older sister enjoyed at another school. They did absolutely nothing worth her time and fees. All she wanted was the college experience her sister got to enjoy overall, but MT has provided none of it. That starts with the administration side inside Cope.

Add in the fact, as we all spoke of it, there is nothing to do near campus. I feel sorry for the ones who cannot go home every weekend. That falls on the city and the university. They need to be enticing development.

She grew up going to MT Football games, but even she said it is nowhere near as good as when she was a good, atmosphere wise. She still goes to them, along with baseball, but that is about it. I was going often to baseball this year and then got tired of paying my money to watch them lose. That fried bologna sandwich was the best thing at Smith Field this season.

My bad guys, looks like I digressed as well. There is so much potential for a university of our size and in a community the size of Murfreesboro and it is being wasted. I just think all kids that go to college deserve a wonderful experience.

I think this is as big a problem as anything we face in turning students into fans who will stay with the program after they graduate.

I went to UT for 3-ish/4 years before transferring over for my last 2 years. I was always surprised at how dead campus was outside of school hours. There was no place to go, nothing to do, no real college-kid atmosphere (this was good for me as I pretty much partied my way into a transfer from UT). You could get a milk-jug 'o beer at Gentleman Jims, but often there'd be like 5 people there. But that was about it. I'd often hit up Slick Pig for a lb of pork and a loaf of white bread, hit the Mapco for a 6 pack, and then just head back to the dorm or apartment.

This was 2003-05, but it doesn't appear that much has changed from my infrequent trips back. A few more restaurants here and there but no development of note anywhere in walking distance of campus in 20 years.

If you have no reason to stay on campus outside of a classroom, then you're never going to build those bonds with the school that lead to fandom and alumni engagement.

Meanwhile, UTk is turning their parking garage into the "Neyland Entertainment District".

Exactly... Got to give them reasons to engage...

The University of Memphis student activity fee is a mandatory fee that funds various student-related services. For students enrolled in one to five credit hours, the fee is $6.00 per credit hour. Students enrolled in six or more credit hours pay a full-time student activity fee of $44.00. This fee entitles students to admission to home athletic events, certain health services, concerts, plays, and other student-sponsored activities and social events

What are some examples of things to do near campus that other schools have???

I remember before Donnelly, MT played Delaware in the late '70s when Ben Hurt had driven the football program to a previous low point, and the Blue Hens skull dragged the Raiders all over the field. They had the better program then, and it won't take long if at all for them to pass MT as every other newbie has done.

Delaware is a good add. They're competitive, are a state flagship, and have a Q-rating that a U of "state" has that many of our CUSA programs don't.

Whether they'll be better than us? I dunno. They have some geographic challenges that we don't. Not that we've taken advantage of that, but...

Was at that game. Hens were tossing simple 10-15 yard crossing patterns over the middle all day long practically every other play. Never saw a Raider within 10 yards of any receiver at moment of reception. We never made a single change defensively. One of the ugliest games I ever saw in the Boro. Believe Hens scored around 63 that day. Other than that it was a beautiful Saturday afternoon.
