I actually really liked the interview. Loved Stock's comments on our facilities and how our bad facilities are a problem because WKU and Marshall have better. He noted that our facilities have not changed since 1-AA, despite our last 4 years being our most successful ever as a Division 1 program.....

When you look at the big picture in CUSA and how we have to recruit in combination with our poor facilities, we really do more with less than any other school in the conference in my opinion. It's a shame our athletic administration is so inept.

Have you ever seen him or any of this staff out about town or the Nashville MSA trying to help in raising funds to improve his facilities? All the while enjoying over $800,000 a year?

800K a year now is a bargain compared to the other coaches in our league.

The real reason we don't have more is we simply don't have enough of a fan base. Not sure a coaching change would change that...I just can't see some of you naysayers ponying up enough cash to make a difference.

He’s right where he wants to be. In the middle. But look at his buyout. #1 in the conference at $6.6MM and not one title to show for it. A few $100,000 more would be nice but I promise you, Coaches love YEARS guaranteed. The admins bought his sales pitch hook, line and sinker.

Why do we not have a fanbase? That's the real question the admin should be asking. Here's a couple of reasons....

1. The admin does zero reaching out nor are they inclusive while spending minimal marketing dollars.

2. Dead gameday experience.

3. Head coach is mediocre and is about as exciting as paint drying on the side of a barn.

4. Zero student outreach or support of the groups we had like the Blue Zoo who the admin disowned up until this year.

5. No incentives or outreach for corporate sponsors.

6. No loyalty program for fans.

7. Bad branding

8. Bad messaging when they do market.

I could go on but I have crap to do. Good luck to em. They are gonna need it.

When you go 1-7 over the last four seasons against the two closest, geographically, D1 football programs, the programs your fans want you to beat the most and you manage to lose several of those games in the worst possible ways, and you talk about 'competing' to the point where most Blue Raider fans become 'triggered' by that word, you don't have to go any further than that to explain the fan alienation. You don't have to dig any further than that, but the fact that fans can go further makes for an indefensible position for the people running this s*** show.

Highest paid employee on campus.

$821,704.00 Head Football Coach 8-year contract.

For comparison:
$400,000.00 President of the University 5-year contract with a $250,000 bonus opportunity.

$301,566.33 Dean of Jennings Jones College of Business

$250,000.00. Athletic Director

$230,452.16 VP Business and Finance

The recipe for mediocrity....
To get the automatic annual 1-year rollover Stock must:

1) Team APR of 940 or above
2) Team must win 50% of all games or
6 Conference games and

3) No Level 1 or Level 2 NCAA violations or any gross negligence that would undermine the Football Program or the University.

Would you not sign that deal?

I understand the frustration, but sitting out doesn't make any difference. Look, we don't have enough fans and don't have enough givers...this isn't a professional team, its our University. You've jumped ship and I understand why but why hang around and keep being negative? Is it fun for you...look, Space shared your frustration but the difference is in my mind he is still going to games, still supporting the program just not the man. I still attend games and give my part but in my heart there is no answer, really. College FB changed and is changing. G5 is in trouble.

To be clear Stock can no longer receive the auto extension and pay increase. There was a cap placed on it and that cap has been reached.

I do want them to win. One of the degrees on my wall is from MTSU. I even cared during and after the 2010 / 2011 meltdowns and defended Stock. That said, I don’t like lollipops and unicorns press releases or fudged numbers.
I’m also beginning to believe after watching the successes of other conference members, that G5 schools need a new young coach on the upswing at least every 3 or 4 years to keep things fresh and moving forward.

Shoot me.

This is spot on. Would not surprise me that anything less than P5 will be gone within the next ten years. Why bother?

You just made my day. Did not realize this.

Well there is a flip side. The years he achieved and delayed his raises will kick in this year IIRC. So, he won’t be at $800K. He should be at $1.1M this season.

If I was a G5 conference commish, I just go to the other G5 conferences and tell them if P5 breaks away then we should not play them in any other sports. Ever. Same for FCS. Redivide G5 and make it be 100% proximity based.

What you'll also see is schools like IDU, Illinois, Vandy, Mizzou, NC, Duke, never going post season in FB ever if that happens. The top 20 schools are the only ones that really want this.

I believe the current P5 will breakaway within 10 years. The only non P5 to be invited will be Notre Dame and BYU. There may be some casualties currently P5 that will not be part of the new league. Any of us currently not part of that group, including Cincy, UCF and Houston will not be invited.
I agree with JT. We let them play each other and they will begin to collapse to the top 16 teams.
The game is changing because of greed. Sad.
