And now LaT is bowling. Took over for Marshall who had to opt out after nearly 30 players entered the portal.

And that honestly pisses me off. That was a conf champ vs champ game. And I can't blame Marshall.

The portal dates need changed to prevent this till after bowls but they can't do that because of the school calendar and letting kids enroll for new semester. That really needs fixed but the NCAA can't enforce a rule because it would result in an anti-trust lawsuit. That needs fixed too.

Simply restricting players to one transfer would go a long way in preventing this crap.

They can't though. That's been a lawsuit too that the NCAA essentially lost. An anti-trust violation.
That's what I mean. Until that is fixed, none of it will be fixed. It's either Congress gives them anti-trust exemption and they can then enact what they want, or the players form a union and enact a collective bargaining agreement to prevent a lawsuit (like the NFL does it). Or they become employees, which won't happen in my mind unless a split funded by private equity like I've talked about happens.

Those are the only options to be able to restrict the players on anything.

This is so frustrating. They should make it an NFL farm league and pay the schools for the use of their name. Completely separate from the universities.
I'm like Wiley, watching more NFL and less so called college football.

Marshall screwed over Huff, played stupid games after he won the SBC and the entire team put Marshall on the hotseat. Marshall's AD needs to be gone. They got what they deserved. The players stuck with the coach and Marshall did him dirty especially after bringing home the title.

Huff did Marshall dirty.

He finished 7-6 his first year. He alerted Marshall after that year he was entertaining other jobs.
His second year he finished 9-4 and Marshall offered him an extension and he said no.

This year his contract was to run out. Before the season Marshall offered again. He said no, let's wait till after and the AD agreed with the caveat Huff wouldn't pursue other jobs. He did anyway (he did tell the AD he was doing so though). At the end of the season he was again offered an extension. Said no so Spears called Gibby immediately. He was named head coach the same day Huff was announced by Southern Miss.

My wife is a Marshall alum so we know many still very involved. Huff used Marshall essentially and he nor his family were ever happy in Huntington.

That was essentially what I heard. Probably best for both sides he is gone,

Rich Rod was very noticeable in Frisco, TX last night making the rounds on the West Virginia side of the stadium with his AD, Wren Baker.
Most of their fans I spoke with in my hotel were pleased he was returning home.
I'm super stoked. Most are. There are some of course still ticked and judge him for personal things.

If I have to choose between a nice guy who goes .500 or an @$$hole who wins championships, I'll choose the prick every time. I don't see RR as one, but you get my point.
Plus many don't understand the behind the door stuff that went on before he left. When his own players from then aren't mad at him for leaving, that says something.

And congrats to Memphis. Just what I expected. End score anyway. I walked away for a while during the first half. I will say I hope the entire defense portals out. 37pts and still lose is ridiculous.

I watched that Greene kid from FL in pre-game warmups and could tell he was gonna give us fits. He carries himself just like the Navy kid who got hurt and the North Texas kid. All three are excellent RPO dual threat QB’s and we never could grasp how to account for them and let them run wild after they broke containment. Greene has a cannon for an arm. Throws it as well as Doug Flutie. Roster says he’s 5’10” but I bet he’s not more than 5’8”. I shudder to think what he would have done in that last 8 seconds if the replay officials hadn’t given us the slide ruling. Our DC was going wild on the sidelines on that play trying to get our LB to go down after the INT.

Another tidbit MidTennMtneer, the first time I met Wren Baker was before the 2013 game with Memphis and was introduced to him by Massaro when CM was giving him a tour of the new Hendrix stadium club. Wren was the new Memphis Deputy AD under Tom Bowen.
Later that year he offered and paid for half of a game film conversion to DVD project that I was working on with several former Tiger players from the 70’s. It was almost $3,000 that he had the school kick in.
Look at what he’s done since that time after leaving for Mizzou, UNT and now West Virginia.
Wren is worth every penny of the $1.1 million a year you guys are paying him. “Rock Star AD”

I'd offer him a lifetime contract if I could.

He and Lee are of the same mold. Both extremely personable, understand $250 is just as important as $250k, understand the current landscape and how to adapt, and I could go on.

I know we won't keep Lee for forever, but I really hope we can long enough for him to replace CM here for a while. I think he (and moving Hans to his spot) could make a real difference. Wren has grown WVU $ despite bad leadership from President Gee.
A good AD and team could do that here as well. I think CM is hamstrung from being here so long. Hard to disrupt the status quo so to speak. Need someone not afraid to shake things up a bit.

The contracts were very limiting and still kept him the 2nd lowest paid coach in the Belt and the buyout option was dollar for dollar with no negotion and any conversations with any other team had to be fully reported which no coach is signing. Also, if the relationship was so bad then come to the table with a solution to get him out of there. Buy him out in the off season of 23 and cut him loose. This situation could have been handled way better by both parties.
