In Norman, OK, the Raiders (2-2) managed only 95 yards of offense and lost 59-0 to 17th ranked Oklahoma. The defense gave up 128 yards rushing and 3 TDs to Adrian Peterson.

In Murfreesboro, #1 ranked Georgia Southern kicked a field goal with 2:03 remaining, to beat MT (1-2) 34-31. Dwight Stone rushed for 148 yards and 3 TDs and Dwight Johnson caught a touchdown pass from Marvin Collier.

40 Years Ago This Week
9-18-76:
In Murfreesboro, the Raiders (1-2) lost their home opener 38-3 to UT-Martin. The Raiders went up 3-0 on the opening drive but could not score again.

50 Years Ago This Week
9-24-66:
In Martin, TN, the #2 ranked Raiders (2-0) beat the UTMB Vols (UT-Martin) by the score of 10-3. Paul Barnett kicked a 38 yard field goal and Larry Mathews scored a 4th quarter touchdown. Bill Robertson intercepted a pass in the final minute, to preserve the win.

9-22-56:
In Murfreesboro, MT (1-1) beat Austin Peay 38-20. Rushing touchdowns were scored by Buck Rolman, Harris Kemp, and Ed Carson. G.E. McCormick caught a touchdown pass from Sidney Corban, and another from Jimmy Dunlap.

In the sixties I think ut-martin was referred to as the baby vols, I visited that campus when MT was playing there during my college days and they had just changed over to Pacers (now they are skyhawks).
 
9-24-66 "Pat Barnett kicked a 38 yard field goal . . ."

I clearly remember a Paul Barnett (definitely the kicker) from the middle 60s but Pat? Paul was from Chattanooga and I've seen him in attendance at games in recent years.

I changed it, to his correct first name.

Most of what I'm writing is from old DNJ accounts from the games. I've come across a lot of players, whose name seemed changed from week to week. Not as many from 1966 though. Lee Sadler was the writer and was much better than most, that have covered us through the years.
