What a pathetic display of football today. I had a bad feeling when MT decided to kick instead of receive. I thought if our defense can't stop these guys first drive, we've given them the momentum and unlike a Middle Tennessee team, utsa won't hand the momentum back to their opponent after getting the lead.

We are a 1 trick pony, period, and UTSA exposed that fatal flaw. Brent going down didn't help matters, but we woulda lost anyhow. We were absolutely destroyed on both lines of scrimmage.

This team isn't nearly as good as people think. The only team we've beaten with a pulse is La Tech and it took a miracle just for that to happen. The other 5 wins came against teams with a collective win total of like 8 or something.

It really is quite pathetic, but we should be used to this by now. Same story, different year.

Need to completely get rid of our defensive staff and start over, blank slate. It is just PATHETIC that we are getting worse as the season goes on. Can't blame the offense for this one, or really any game except maybe Vandy and WKU end of game playcalling. If it wasn't for our explosiveness on offense we would be getting blown out every single week. It is just so infuriating. And if I hear one blip out of Nix Jr I will shoot steam out of my ears. DC Nix needs to be fired. What the hell more do you need to see? Do we have to give up 1,000 yards to Charlotte?

D Line was brutal today. A good play for them was only giving up a 3 us run. I can only think of 1 tackle for loss all game. Terrible.

The defensive problem has been glaring after just a few weeks into the season. It almost seems to be getting worse. It is hard to watch MT's defense make every average or below average team's offense look like Joe Montana's 49ers.

MT appeared to get whooped on both sides of the line vs UTSA. For weeks, the defensive line has just been getting dominated.

The same results this season are a little more difficult to take since expectations were a little higher this season. The weather was perfect. Can't blame the cold of November for poor attendance today. This lack of attendance and/or buzz pretty much sums up the state of MT football.

...MT appeared to get whooped on both sides of the line vs UTSA. For weeks, the defensive line has just been getting dominated.....

Both lines seem to have problems when going up against average to below average cusa opposition. We've been fortunate to have had some good skill players on offense to mask the issues by making big plays and out scoring some other teams. After seeing this for more than one season, I am beginning to question the recruiting and what we're doing with them after they get here.

With a raw QB now under center, the immediate outlook is not good.

I know the hunker down knee jerk response is "ignore the noise" but with more results like we see typically several times each season, the noise level is not much more than a whisper as people stop coming, stop caring. Some changes have to be made.

Really Space, who cares anymore. This team continues to disappoint year after year. ~.500ish record playing some of the easiest schedules in the country, terrible bowl record, inability to show up in the big games, etc., etc., etc. Even when we are picked to finish 1st in the conference we end up with just another ordinary year with ordinary outcomes.

It's the same story, different year, going on a decade now. Still no championships, still no domination, still no top 25 rankings. Just a stagnant, middle of the road program that occasionally wins games it shouldn't and follows them up by losing games they had no business losing. Just balances out to average in the end. Maybe that should be our new name. Average State University, because we've literally set the mark for the most average program in history.

I said it 10 years ago when McCollum was coach and I'll say it again. Mediocrity kills a program and cannot be accepted. There must be accountability and there must be at least an effort made to reach the top. Mediocrity is the worst thing for a program because it results in a stalemate. Coaches are never hired away because nobody wants them, and AD's are too scared to fire them because if the next coach doesn't do better then they lose their own job. Massaro probably enjoys the paychecks he is cashing and doesn't want to move any time soon, and there isn't enough uproar to force his hand, so why risk his job security? It's actually a quite F'd up situation if you ask me. Maybe it's Massaro's head we should be calling for at this point considering he's the one who gave CRS a lifetime contract and made it impossible to buy him out. You or I could win 6-7 games a year playing one of the easiest schedules in the country year in and year out.

The only thing we can do at this point is hit them where it hurts, and that's in the check book. Stop giving and stop going, period. I did this long ago but I know it's harder for some than others but you've got to realize it's the only way to truly force change.

Only donate if your donations can be strictly earmarked for basketball. If the BRAA doesn't allow for your membership funds to be earmarked, then too bad so sad, cancel the membership. They'll change that policy in a hurry if enough people cancel and cite the reason for cancellation (they don't want to fund the football program)

The context about this loss hurts more: Our Head Coach has been at MT longer than UTSA has fielded a competitive football program. Ten (10) years ago UTSA football was non existent, except for a feasibility study proposal. Enter Larry Coker as coach (won a NC at Miami 'the U" in his first year BTW) and he built two winning seasons along the way. Roadrunners play games in the Alamodome and seem to garner good support. Noticed their road crowd here. This is only UTSA's sixth season of FBS football and they have a first year coach. We've been playing football 102 years now and since 1999 in FBS and we can't get much more than 13,000 (announced--maybe 10,500?) on a 71 degree sunny day in early November with a 6-2 record. And a game that's meaningful going into it? The seeds of this loss were planted well before Brent suffered his injury. Hope and pray Brent heals well; that is of prime importance. But, what is scary is we really don't have an effective plan B and C for this contingency, as it appeared. Understand things happen in the game. But, I'm wondering where do we go from here rest of this season? We need to solve that fast or our promising 6-2 season could easily turn into 7-5. We got taken to the woodshed by a six year old FBS program and we could lose to another newbie, if we're not careful as USM proved today.

Raiderclyde you have to ask yourself, what's the difference between finishing 7-5 or 9-3? Honestly, what's it matter? We'll be playing in some afterthought bowl regardless of our record like the McMinnville Fish Taco bowl....and we'll probably get stomped by some mediocre MAC team at that to the tune of 60-24. I honestly don't even see a point to finishing the season. We've reached the point of where we can no longer achieve our goals so freakin' cares what happens now. You really want to watch this defense line up for 3 or 4 more games? I sure as hell don't. It's flat out embarassing.

It is with reticence that I clicked the like button for your comments. Not because I disagreed or anything of that nature. It is with reservation that I reaffirm and declare the reality of MT football that you state. I am not happy to see interest wane. For longer than many want to acknowledge, many people are past caring. It's a problem. Look at the stadium during a Saturday game on a glorious autumn afternoon. It's pitiful. This cannot be the accepted norm by those in leadership at the university.

Wiley, I'll refrain on the university name in general. Although, your comment on "Average State University" calls to mind something. Isn't that pretty much what we already have? Isn't "Middle" usually associated with something average? Something in the middle, not at the top. It's not at the bottom. It's in the middle. Where things are average. So in a way, we already have that name "Average Tennessee State University." Just sayin'

Some similar thoughts crossed my mind today. When looking around at some of the games and scores across the conference, it almost seems that the new breed, or generation, of C-USA coaches are upending the conference. These new coaches, many in new programs, are quickly making a mark on the conference. They seem to be doing it by beating some of the older "more established" programs.

New coach at UTSA, well we saw how that turned out for MT today. Charlotte seems to be improving each week to point where they now seem to be a player. ODU seems to be improving. The new coach at UNT seems to be improving things there. I'm not looking forward to playing them the next year or two. FIU, a disaster, with an interim coach plugged in, FIU has plenty of talent to compete. A 21 point lead by MT meant almost nothing!

For all the hype, or maybe it was hope, it's getting tiring to watch what is likely turning into just another same ole season where MT backs into "bowl eligibility." Well, that's not cutting it. All one has to do is look at the stadium on gameday and see the attendance to know that there is a problem.

Losing the game at Vandy put me on the fence for this season. Losing to WKU again pushed me completely off. It's unfortunate but I won't be back. Stock is a good guy but, in my opinion, the program will never advance any further than it is now under his leadership. The contract he negotiated with CM and SM assures that nothing changes for a long while.

Did CRS get another extension this year after getting to six?

I believe it's still "bowl eligible" that kicks on the automatic extension but don't quote me on it until I can research it.

IMHO, the switch gets turned to off position once we hit that magical 6 win plateau.

There is no collective will to be anything greater. it's evident every year.

Yeah and you said the same thing about men's basketball. Stock ain't gonna bring back Diaz but if they can fix the defense this football team wins more games.

Did CRS get another extension this year after getting to six?

"After the win over Texas-San Antonio this past Saturday, the Blue Raiders improved to 7-5 overall and 6-2 in Conference USA play.

According to Stockstill’s contract, which originally ran through 2023, the head coach automatically gets another year added to his contract because he won more than six games in conference and won more than 50 percent of his game. He'll now coach through 2024.

The head coach, who is in his 10th year, earns around $800,000 a year and is one of the highest paid coaches in Conference USA."

So, if we lose the rest of our games this year, he won't get another extension? That would mean he would have won only three conference games (La Tech, UNT and FIU).
