Raiders have productive, "clean" first scrimmage

MT stretches field in first spring scrimmage

...Despite the success the offense had throughout the contest, an
improved MTSU defense was also on display. It managed four sacks and
forced three turnovers.

The unit also held the team's rushing

rushes went for more than five yards.

"I saw a lot of
improvement," defensive coordinator Tyrone Nix said. "I saw a lot of
guys tackling and taking proper angles to the ball." .....

The main two things that catch my eye are we threw 4 passes to TE Saun Smith. He must be pretty good.

I was surprised when Brent said we are trying some new concepts as far as throwing the ball downfield more. Maybe it has to do with experience but it is still something odd if you know what I mean.

I took it to mean that they're doing everything they can to structure the offense to match Brent's skill set. Perhaps I'm being overly suspicious.

"Suspicious" because the Coaches want to throw the ball in the middle of the field DEEP ?
That perspective can only be derisive.
Let the QB's fight it out.. Coaches aren't going to play someone they can't win with unless they have no choice.

Suspicious or not, that's what we need.

We need to be able to threaten the deep middle (the deep anywhere) to move those extra guys out of the box and prevent them from sitting down on our running game.

Exactly. A legitimate passing attack always opens up the running game.
