If this guy is the best we have then my goodness. How many chances do you give a guy that flat-out cannot punt a football?

Hell they could probably find a walk on History Of Antarctica Major that can punt better than that.

This is the worst punt unit I've seen at MT in 30 years. Truly pathetic.

I really am perplexed. I GUARANTEE-GUARANTEE-GUARANTEE there are multiple kids on campus who can consistently punt the ball 40+ yards. My f'ing average as a high school punter was like 37 yards and I was the BACK UP punter! Most high school punters can average over 40 yards per punt and we've got 20k+ students on campus.....I promise there are several who can do better than what we got.....

Once again, for the 4th week in a row, I will call on this staff to spend a scholarship on a punter. You can get one of the best punters in the country if offering a scholarship, SO WHY NOT DO IT? I am perplexed at the lack of scholarships given to punters despite their importance. We just offered and took a commitment for a 5'7 160lb RB who tore his ACL last year and will never see the field here but heaven forbid we give a scholarship to a punter.

I'm seriously done with this staff as a whole, including Rick Stockstill. I am sick and fed up with his $hit.

The punter problem has gotten beyond ridiculous! I share the thoughts of most in that there are plenty of people capable of punting 40+ yards without formal training!

To be fair, punting is more difficult than meets the eye. Many people can bomb 40 and even 50 yard punts but getting them off in 1.5 steps is extremely difficult. Still, this is something that the average high school athlete can do and do consistently. I am absolutely perplexed by our punting woes, especially since it's gone on this long. This should have been corrected by now. Something isn't right here.

Yea, that's why I mentioned formal training. In my youth without formal training, I could punt 40 yds and kick a 35 yd FG pretty consistently...with the limited steps. That was just a youth playing around without any formal training.

Sadly, MT's punter is supposed to be coached by a D1 coach??!! I just don't get it. At first, I thought maybe it's nerves. Then I thought maybe he can really boom them in practice and just needs to be coached up. Halfway through the season now, there's just getting to be no excuses. Lolly-gagging getting the punt off only to get it blocked has really hurt the team more than once this season. Constantly struggling to get a punt 30 yds is almost unbelievable to watch at this point. This doesn't mention the shanks for 10-15 yards etc etc etc. It leaves the defense in a bad position almost every change of possession. For coach stock's style and a team who's trying to run the ball, field position matters over the course of the game. Especially in close games! Can anyone say Illinois or Vandy?! MTSU has no hope of flipping the field with punting this season. Although punting is standing out as a tremendously large problem, I'm not sure punting would have much effected the atrocious outcome vs WKU.

To top it all off, I thought coach stock spent a scholarship on a punter in the last couple of years. I have not researched it to try to verify the matter. Whatever the case, I'm pretty much shocked coach stock would get himself into such a terrible position on special teams. I'm dumbfounded by it.

Lastly, I really try not to throw players under the bus at the college level. I feel for the guy, but I do think commenting on coaches' responsibility in training the young athletes can be appropriate.
