FOOTBALL No NIL Money

WKU's QB TJ Finley just entered the portal. Will be heading to his 5th school in 6yrs. NIL to blame I'm sure. After the best paycheck? How in the heck do guys who do that ever graduate? Sheesh.

At some point having that many different coaches has to hurt development if someone ever wants to play in CFL/UFL/NFL.

These kids don't care about graduation. It's all about the moment and how much can they collect. There are some there for the education, but that's few and far between now days.

If these guys are honest, they know the odds of a career in the sport after college.

Might as well get that NIL bag when you can - a bird in hand......

I don't blame these kids for looking out for #1, but it's a double-edged sword. The programs now have to look out for #1, and if that means that underperforming guys, hurt guys, guys that won't/can't contribute get booted - well, it's a business now.

I totally get making what you can while you can. Just frustrating. For one, they are getting a free education. Two, as you said, most won't go pro. So they need and education to fall back on. Granted many are General Studies etc but still. Lots of jobs require just a degree.

I still think the end all (for at least the P2) is a breakaway with PE $. A semi-pro league that the players work for while attending college. The league leases the logo, facilities, etc.

If they are getting paid, let them pay for college.

I am also a believer in once you announce the portal, especially in middle of season, they should be responsible to reimburse the school for that semester and all other expenses. No team weight room access or anything else.

Also, there should only be one portal window in the spring, nothing near bowl season.

I don't blame the kids for transferring. For NIL $$$ or as a chance to play. You aren't gonna find yourself on a NFL roster if you're a backup at MTSU.

But the new transfer portal, NIL, and unlimited transfers makes roster construction / projection really hard.
