BASKETBALL Middle Tennessee (9-3) @ #1Tennessee (11-0) (SECN), 6PM, Monday, December 23, 2024

Horrendously officiated game. But can't shoot as bad as we did late and expect to be in contention to win.

I didn't get to watch but indeed, you cannot shoot poor down the stretch and expect to win.

50% from the FT line....good lord. I seriously think I could do better.

Refs were gonna make sure this one didn't go sideways. 21 to 13 on PF's, UTK with 9 more FTA's. We were crushed on the glass as well...our 29 to their 40. We actually ended the game with 3 more shot attempts but only shot 40% compared to their 48%.

Holy mother of assists. Zeigler with FIFTEEN assists to our teams FIVE. One UTK player had 3x our entire teams assists....I don't even know what to say.

Where would they be without Zeigler? Our guards could learn a thing or two from him me thinks. Assists are such an underrated aspect of basketball. Getting your teammates buckets, and in many cases easy buckets, is what separates good teams from great ones.

Hopefully this can be used as a learning experience. Again I didn't watch the game but it seems odd we can be up by 6 and then still lose by nearly 20 points. Screams out coached to me. One team adjusted, the other didn't.

We are a pretty dangerous club when Counter is healthy. He frees up Weston & Porter to do their thing. I'm sure his legs were tightening up even before the cramping kicked in. Definitely glad he only had leg cramp issues. When he's feeling good we can hang with a lot of teams.
You're not going to run up against a team like UT everyday. Very proud of the effort tonight. There were a ton of nervous orange faithful in the stands for well over 30+ minutes. If you don't think so check out there message board tonight.
If the Raiders keep their heads about them I think they definitely have some potential this March.
No one wants to play a team like this in March when you have a trio of guards like Weston, Porter, & Counter. And don't discount Green. He has an entire conference season to learn & develop from these guys.

I hate blaming the officiating, but it really played a major part late in the game leading up to the total collapse. Loofe getting called for a flagrant foul when UT's player had actually committed a cylinder violation was the tipping point IMO.

So sad and pathetic on the refs part too. It's already a herculean task to go on the road as a mid-major and play an SEC team, especially one that is currently ranked #1 in the country. I feel like refs in these situations should be overwhelmingly striving for a fair game, even erring on the side of the underdog by a hair maybe. It's already nearly impossible for a team like MTSU to win a game like this....throw in unbalanced officiating and the #1 team in the country getting all the 50/50 calls, and it just becomes ridiculous then.

I'm still waiting for the day when a coach becomes so fed up he pulls his team off the floor and goes home and refuses to even finish the game in protest of the poor officiating (Something I personally dream of, doubt it'll ever happen, but I'd love to see it) Want to call a totally bullshit game ? We're out MF'ers. I'm not gonna sit here and let my players get railroaded by overt corrupt officiating. If the refs are clearly going to make sure this game goes one way, why even bother finishing it ?

Like come on....MTSU cannot beat UTK, their crowd, AND the refs. Perhaps that's just how they want it though. These players, conferences, and power teams only worship money these days anyways. Guess their refs do too. Losing to MTSU would be too expensive.
