So I see where both Riverdale and Smyrna has suspended their girl's bb coaches for the remainder of this season and all of next season.

Do you think this was appropriate, or, would you have gone further and fired them outright?

Their actions cost the players a lot, especially the seniors on the teams that are banned from post season play. Unless they go on to play college basketball their last game played outside of street ball will be a game they were coached to intentionally lose. I played sports in high school and I can tell you there are plays that we missed that I still to this day think about. I can't imagine living the rest of my life looking back on my last high school game where the coaches told us to lose, made national headlines, and barred my opportunity to play one more game in the postseason.

That just seems incredibly stupid.

#1 - winning is secondary in high school, or at least it should be. High school sports teach attitude, effort, teamwork, discipline etc. The actual results of each game don't matter. In fact, you can probably get a better lesson with a loss many times.

#2 - Who really cares if you lose in the playoffs - it's freakin' girls high school basketball. I seriously doubt that anyone really cares all that much if you make the playoffs and lose to a better team. Life goes on.

For the very reasons you stated, they should be fired, immediately. This was outright cheating of the first degree, and, like you say, cost those players a lot.
