You all noticing how on road games opponents' fans keep trash talking JaCorey Williams? As it turns out much to their own team's detriment. Opponents trash talking JaCorey Williams = "Release The Kraken!"

JaCorey Williams is absolutely fun to watch. Especially in the Middle Tennessee uniform. When he does get mad, he is darn near unstoppable. Traditionally over the years, getting mad or frustrated supposedly resulted in mistakes. For a lot of players, that may be true. With Williams, it really seems to dial him into a scoring machine.

Of course other great players like Upshaw and Potts are fun to watch. Both of them playing 4 years as Blue Raiders will in all likelihood leave them in the MT record books as a couple of the best Blue Raiders to ever play at Middle Tennessee.

As great as the "big 3" are for MT, it has been a joy as a basketball fan and Blue Raider fan to watch Dixon grow and develop as a PG and all around player. It's hard for me to remember a MT freshman who has developed and played so well as a true Freshman.

As for Williams, he reminds me of Dendy in that it is hard to remember any other players who have been so good and impactful for MT in just one season playing for MT. This goes at least for my 20+ years as a MT fan.

Really gonna miss Williams. Too bad we didn't get him for 4 years. It's a shame we can't get 4 star players like him to come here and make a name for themselves right out of high school. Can you imagine the accolades and records Williams would hold if he came here from the start ??? And it's not like coming here out of high school would have any effect on his NBA potential anyway. If anything it would help him because he gets to show case his skills here for 4 years.

Sucks that the only way we can get 4 star players is through transfer (and half the time having to overlook criminal activity). We have been fortunate to have our transfers pan out. Hope it continues but sure wish we could get one fresh out of high school. Surely our coaches are pitching this to some big name recruits???

As Kermit is demonstrating his ability to really develop underused and underrated players into top flight performers, one would think that word will further get out to talent who really wants to develop to the highest level to get NBA attention. If that turns out to be the case, hopefully us MT fans will see even more highly talented players come in each season.

With that said, Kermit is a unique almost old school type coach. It takes certain types of players to be able to fit into Kermit's system which it can safely be said that Kermit has successfully established at MT. It's clear that Kermit is able to find and develop overlooked young talent to be exceptional players in his system. After so many years, Kermit has developed that winning successful culture that not just any player could fit into. It is a thing of beauty to behold.

Kermit's first few years showed signs of that system and potential for big success. For whatever reason, Kermit and the program hit a lull for 4 or 5 years when they just couldn't seem to get over the hump to that next level of play. I suspect one of the problems was they just weren't finding the good matches for his system as evidenced by the defection of so many players back in those days. In the last 5 or 6 years, Kermit has been able to sort out those problems as evidenced by the tremendous success and dramatic reduction in number of yearly defections. To the contrary, players are now sitting out a year or redshirting in order to develop in Kermit's system.

Another example of Kermit finding impressive talent that wasn't necessarily highly rated, Dixon. He was looked at by a few programs, but had what one or two offers? Was Dixon even a 2 star recruit? Whatever the case, Dixon as a true freshman is playing at least like a 3 star if not a 4 star recruit.

This past spring I was a little aggravated that more highly rated recruits weren't showing up in association with MT after such a big national splash for MT in March Madness. Then hearing an excellent offseason interview by Kermit helped put my mind at ease. He mentioned that of course more interest is out there from players. Kermit went on to explain his approach of looking for those players with ability and potential that are a good match for the winning culture MT now has. It seems that good match is just as or even more important for Kermit than ratings. Clearly he still looks for talented and athletic players who are a good match. It's hard to argue with all of his success.
