Obama's Immigration Plan

Defying the midterm election voters, Barack Obama is set to move forward with immigration reform via executive action.
Fox News has confirmed that as early as next week, president Obama may move forward with a plan to unilaterally make changes to our immigration system.
The plan supposedly has 10 parts, including deferred action for illegal immigrants, which essentially removes the threat of deportation. And this wouldn't just apply to DREAMers or children who were brought to America when they were young. The plan supposedly will include the parents of these children, who are likely U.S. citizens if they were born in America, and legal residents.
Estimates cited by Fox News show that as many as 4.5 million illegal immigrant adults would thusly be granted amnesty as a result of Obama's plan.
Other parts of Obama's plan would include increased pay for immigration officers and improving border security.
The president fails to understand three things:
1. The public isn't on his side on this issue. Virtually every poll taken recently shows that the American people do not support amnesty.
2. The public isn't on his side on achieving this issue through executive order. Perhaps the most eye-opening proof was exit polling conducted on Election Day which found that 74% of Americans believe that "President Obama should work with Congress rather than around Congress on immigration and separately."
3. Obama's actions are unconstitutional and threaten the integrity of our system of government. As constitutional law professor Jonathan Turley warned, Obama is becoming an imperial president who is pushing us towards a constitutional tipping point.
Those who are eligible to be DREAMers, by the way, should be covered under ObamaCare, according to Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Burwell.
The White House says that Obama would retract his executive actions if Congress acts on this issue. That's all well-and-good, but what if Congress doesn't act? Then Obama will be unilaterally creating laws. We already have immigration laws on the books. It is frightening to think that any president can just unilaterally change them at will.
So what could be done to stop the president?
Republicans can use the power of the purse to defund his efforts to implement amnesty.
They could try and sue the president, though it is still questionable whether or not they have the standing to do that.
Or they could pursue the controversial method of impeachment. Impeachment is built into our constitution for a legitimate purpose, yet it has become so politically toxic that politicians shy away from it.
I'm not necessarily saying that is the best approach to stopping Obama's unconstitutional actions, but if something isn't done, what does that say about the integrity of our Constitution?
Republican lawmakers are speaker out in opposition to Obama's plan to move forward in this way on immigration. Senator Jeff Sessions, for example, called this "a threat to the constitutional order."
Here's exactly right. But the president can't be bothered to adhere to the Constitution in the face of his rigid ideology and pressure from liberal donor groups.
