In all honestly, it would be best for at least the Sun Belt and CUSA to do what they are discussing. Maybe even the AAC after being shut down by the MWC teams. Whatever the conferences end up doing, one of them needs to get Liberty. CUSA was dumb to say no before and would be dumb not to pursue them now.

A lot of people around here would disagree due to their historical controversies. However, the better a school is and the more desperate CUSA gets, the more likely they get an offer if CUSA is raided.
It’s just like BYU. B12 and PAC12 said absolutely not a few years ago due to their controversial history. Lose Texas and Oklahoma, all the sudden that doesn’t matter. Same will be true for CUSA if we lose UAB and a few other schools to the AAC or this proposed regional realignment falls through.

On Tuesday, Conference USA sent a letter obtained by The Athletic to the American Athletic Conference requesting a dialogue on conference realignment and regionalization.
The idea would be to discuss potential reorganization between the two leagues, such as creating one conference in the east and one in the west. Various models have been discussed in C-USA, but there’s not one singular plan in place. An AAC league source said the conference has no interest in such a move, but C-USA is hoping simply to create more discussion among presidents. The source also indicated that AAC commissioner Mike Aresco is still focused on creating the top Group of 5 league and a push for Power 6 status.
The letter is from C-USA board chair and North Texas president Neal Smatresk and commissioner Judy MacLeod and is addressed to Tulane president Michael Fitts and Aresco.
“We believe that it would be beneficial to have a conversation about the future landscape of intercollegiate sports in this time of great national uncertainty,” the letter reads. “Our colleagues in Conference USA have spent a good deal of time over the past several weeks discussing the developments triggered by the latest wave of conference realignment. Rather than continuing to perpetuate the pattern of universities moving from conference to conference in pursuit of modest media revenues, we see an opportunity to develop a more sensible and sustainable

Both the AAC and Sun Belt believe they are better positioned than C-USA and don’t want to give up that advantage. Some athletic directors in those leagues see the appeal of such a move but believe factors such as conference exit fees, current television deals and local political clashing make such a move untenable.....

The G5 leagues are just as greedy as the P5, if not more greedy. The Power 5 is fighting over hundreds of millions of dollars. That's easy to do. Meanwhile, the G5 fights over peanuts and is essentially rearranging chairs on the Titanic. They're too stupid to realize the need to group together and approach things more sensibly.
Aresco is actually delusional if he thinks the AAC is becoming a Power 5 league and thus creating the "Power 6." I cannot believe he would say something like that. He knows there is 1000% that never happens. He must be pandering to these universities president's/AD's because that's what they want to hear. How sad.
If anything, the powers that be will be cutting down to 4 conferences and will be pushing more teams to the "G5" level instead of adding more. How does Aresco not understand that the people running the show (Alabama, Texas, Oklahoma, Ohio State, et al.) want MORE money split between FEWER teams. Laughable. And to think he's paid at least a million to run that conference but makes statements like that....
And if CUSA had a 1 up on the SBC/AAC right now, they'd be saying the same things that the SBC/AAC are saying now, essentially, "no thanks."
All greedy, short-term minded clowns. Both the G5 and P5. It's a shame there isn't a collective body that can legislate and control the conferences. It's supposed to be amateur athletics afterall, student's first then athletes, etc. Feels more and more like professional sports with each passing year and it's really starting to turn me off. If I wanted to watch professional sports I'd watch the NBA/NFL

The AAC doesn't need to be on a high horse. The C-USA was once a good G5 conference, but realignment changed that and this latest round of realignment will do the same to the AAC. They think they're different, but not anymore. In a few years, the AAC will be just another G5 conference.
They already are just another G5 conference. And now Houston, UCF, and Cincy are gone. The MWC is now higher on the pecking order. Bad days are on the horizon for the AAC.
Losing Houston and cincy are huge. Everyone knows they have good football programs but I think people forget they are perennial top 25 basketball programs as well. They can play with and beat anybody in the country on their good nights.
AAC just lost its best football and basketball schools by a mile.

Talk about ironic if the MWC takes Tulsa and SMU for example after the MWC schools essentially said no to the AAC.
It's so gonna wind up P4 and G4 when it is all said and done.
