Considering Tech's recent success in major sports like football and men's basketball — the Bulldogs went 9-5 and won a bowl game in 2014 while the hoops team won 27 games and a regular season conference title for the third straight year — it begs the question how Tech is competing with the rest of its C-USA counterparts.
It's a broad topic for Tech athletic director Tommy McClelland to put his finger on, but it all circles back to geography, an expectation to win and hiring the right coaches.
"I've told people ever since I got here, we're competitive now, but in order to maintain competitiveness, we don't necessarily have to say how do we get a $35 million budget like the schools on the top end of our league because their numbers are a bit different in the situations they are in," he said.
