Facilities Mega Thread

Montana's is a huge eyesore. Now what Montana State is working towards is what I'd shoot for here.

yeah adding a building with full service sports bar to the other endzone would complete the look of Floyd, kind of like Vandy is doing, and brick veneer around the stadium
My vision to improve fan experience at Floyd

1) Build an indoor suite in the SAPC end zone. Have players go through the suite when they enter / exit game (like ATT Stadium in Dallas).
2) Build facility in scoreboard end zone. Facility would hold student-athlete cafeteria that would open to field & would be used as another indoor suite on game days, SA success / tutoring, ticket, lightning locker room, and visitor locker room.
3) Field level suite on Home sideline, chair backs in every seat on home side, and open up the Hendrix Club more,
4) Do something with visitor side seats to improve fan experience.

FWIW: I went to the baseball game last vs Lipscomb and was sitting near Mickey Ryan (Former 104.5 host and current Lipscomb employee) when Andy Womack came over and introduced himself to Mickey and another lady, who I did not recognize. Anyway, Andy said he was part of the Build Blue initiative and started talking about the construction in athletics.

When he started discussing Murphy Center, he said the state is kicking in $76M because of the academic sections located in the MC are being renovated and that they have raised $24M for it. He was not talking directly to me, but I heard and saw the words come out of his mouth because I was right behind them.

I do not know the targeted goal for that renovation, but I can only assume it is fundraising based on that and what Massaro told me directly. Again, just my assumption, I am not part of the inner circle of all that.

I have long questioned the reason for the giant steps leading up to the east side of MC entrance. My first memory of those steps were when I attended the ‘76 TSSAA Boy’s Basketball State Championships.
Just an observation.

I am just fascinated that government educational institutions can own residential properties and landlord them to the general public. Floored really.
MT should stop buying all the surrounding properties and turning them into slums. They have enough property as is. They just need to go vertical like Vanderbilt or Belmont. The boundaries should essentially be E. Main St, Middle Tennessee Blvd, Greenland, and South Rutherford. MT holding on to these properties forever is one of the reasons we don't have nice commercial development (bars, restaurants, and retail) around the university like most campuses. Developers cant take advantage to build these things. Also, the poor relationship with the city is hurting things as well.

Agree, the more things we can give the students to do will make it less of a suitcase college. The kids need a place they can go to eat and drink and be able to walk back to campus. I also feel we need more dorms.

A few weeks ago, I peeked my head into couple former stomping grounds from day, The Boro and Campus Pub, and both were heavily covered in cigarette smoke and The Boro only accepted cash, but nothing was said until I already had my drink, but they had an ATM of course. I don't recall all the smoke and cash only policy, but it had been about 24 years since I had been in either one.

Not sports related, but just something that popped in my head. Since the Miller Coliseum is out by Siegel, does the school still utilize the on-campus livestock center or are they used for two different types of events?

I'm just thinking that is a lot of land and parking that could be utilized for something else.

weren't they at some point talking about converting to an indoor track?

Great idea... I was looking on the website and it looks rather nice. Plus, they have an RV lot over there with full hook ups as well.

Iowa State doing a mixed use area now too. Even has an outdoor amphitheater for pep rallies and concerts. Something like that would be awesome for us. Have permanent dining but also specific round lot for food trucks.

This is the type of thing the school should do with their property along MT Blvd around the new hotel instead of being shamed in the papers and having to force a renter to clean up. Build commercial space and lease it out instead of residential. Would take some zoning meandering I'm sure, but would be doable.

There is astronomical potential to redevelop some of the MT land into something nice and unique to help keep the students here on weekends. There needs to be something within walking distance for them, IMO.

All they have now is Campus Pub, The Boro (both stenches of cigarette smoke), and the two Gentlemen Jim's. I could be missing something, but did not include Boulevard and Jefferson's since they are mainly for food.

I cannot stand the indoor smoking at bars here. I just don’t understand it. I do not want to smell like an ash tray grabbing a drink. That’s the only reason I won’t go to those bars.

I agree... When I frequented Campus Pub in the late 90's, I want to say Ricky, the owner then, did not allow smoking, but don't hold me to it. I just don't remember it, but I could've been more immune to it than I am now.

Kids today rarely carry cash, and The Boro is cash only. However, they conveniently have an ATM machine you can use.

This will be nice, but I still think ribbon boards need to encircle the stadium.

Make it nice and bright...

I'd like to see lit up MT Logo's on the facilities someday down the road as well.

Man. Im getting old. Starting to count turf replacements as time points.

Question is: will the MT be centered at midfield.

This was the subject of a great debate on the defunct BRZ board.

People were putting geometry to the test!

Ehh. The lightning bolt throws it off a bit. Love the state outline though.

Would look sooooooooooo much better without the blasted pegasus. I don't know what the department's obsession is with that thing.

I like the Pegasus. From reading these boards, I assume most alum do not?

(I'm new to the MTSU game.)

Correct; I don't hate it as much as some on the board do, but I do much prefer the plain block MT without the pony.

I'm in the hate boat. It screams high school to me. I do my best to not get any shirts or anything that have it, and my tattoo most certainly is the block lettering only.

When they had the basketball court "contest" 🤬, the ones I made and ones I think looked best were only the block letters.
I truly believe the block MT is timeless and never should be changed, just like the Alabama A, Georgia G, and flying WV.

I don’t hate it as much as some but I would prefer the MT without the Pegasus. I’d also like the AD to embrace the Lightening cartoonish character on more uniforms (like the helmets).

I've no strong feelings towards the pegasus either way. I do kind of like that it's a unique mascot.

The logo can do with a refresh though.

Still can't find any of the "MIDDLE TENNESSEE" merch that Coach sports in so many of the media scenes.

I feel like I saw it somewhere but cannot seem to find it. @ldeleon5 do you know where he can find it?
