BASKETBALL Challenge in Music City College Basketball Tournament

MT pulls it out in OT, 73-70. Nice win...lets go win the tourney tomorrow.
We have already won the tournament according to the radio guys. Won't seem like a true win unless we sweep tho. It does however seem that we have played the better teams already

Well, we don't want to lose to Evansville, who is 0-2. They took UNCW to OT, so they will be tough to beat.

Everyone make your plans to attend tomorrow. This team deserves our support, they're 5-1 on a nice win streak and playing at home more or less. Evansville is a tough out but we can beat 'em up ... and have a nice Blue Raider crowd while doing so.

...The Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders and the Evansville Purple Aces face off on Sunday in Nashville in college basketball action.

The Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders are 5-1 this season and ae riding a 3-game winning streak. MTSU is averaging 74.5 points per game and they are shooting 50.2 percent from the floor while defensively they are allowing 72 points per game and their opponents are shooting 42.2 percent. JaCorey Williams leads the Blue Raiders averaging 19 points per game. Reggie Upshaw is averaging 15.4 points and 7.2 rebounds for MTSU, Giddy Potts is averaging 12.8 points and 6.4 rebounds, and Edward Simpson is averaging 5.8 points. Middle Tennessee State looks to be tough once again with many of the same players on the roster who beat Michigan State last year in the NCAA Tournament.

The Evansville Purple Aces are 2-3 this season and they are coming off of a loss to UNCW. Evansville is averaging 69.2 points per game and they are shooting 44.7 percent from the floor and 34.1 percent from beyond the 3-point arc while defensively they are allowing 69 points and their opponents are shooting 43.2 percent. Jaylon Brown leads the Purple Aces averaging 25.5 points per game. Ryan Taylor is averaging 11.8 points, Sergej Vucetic is averaging 7.8 points, and Christian Benzon is averaging 5.8 points. Evansville is having trouble on the defensive end of the court and they are up against it in this spot.

Middle Tennessee State is 5-0 against the spread against the MVC, 8-3 against the spread in their last 11 non-conference games, and 6-1 against the spread in their last 7 neutral site games. Evansville is 3-9 against the spread in their last 12 games and 2-5 against the spread against a team with a winning record.....

UNC Wilmington clips UE at the buzzer

The Day After: UNC Wilmington 65, Evansville 62

excerpts:

...Evansville took just one 3-point attempt, a shockingly low number even for a team that doesn't rely much on 3s. Early in the season, UE ranks last in Division I with 16.7 percent of its field-goal attempts coming from long range.....

...The Aces were predictably downtrodden after suffering their second straight close loss. In the final minute of regulation of both games, UE appeared to have the best chance of winning. But Jaylon Brown's contested layup rimmed out Friday and UE committed two straight turnovers Saturday leading to a buzzer-beating 3-pointer.

So, they're 0-2 on the weekend and have Middle Tennessee next -- the team that has already clinched the Challenge in Music City title by winning its first two games.

“Both games were close games," Wiley said. "We made small mistakes throughout the whole game that could’ve probably changed the game. But we play the best team (in the tournament Sunday) so we’ve just got to put this loss behind us and move forward.”

Simmons said this tournament has offered a unique challenge: preparing for three different styles of play in three days. Toledo played big lineups with forwards and centers who could shoot 3-pointers; UNCW played small and pressed full-court; and Middle Tennessee employs a trapping 1-3-1 defense with the tournament's most impressive blend of size and quickness.....

I use RealTimeRPI.com -- they're a day delayed but very helpful. Before today's win we were at #11 RPI nationally after beating UNCW. That should go up even more.

Here's the national rankings: http://realtimerpi.com/college_Men_basketball_rpi.html
And the MT ranking: http://realtimerpi.com/rpi_402_Men.html

there's also some others, though it is still too early for it to have much real meaning...

Massaro:

We're fortunate because we've been bowl eligible alot.

A lot of confusion and bowl trading...

CUSA champions choose where they go...

wku wants Boca, latech wants HOD

ODU very attractive because their first bowl and solid fan base...

Soon as something is known, fans will know. NO is attracted to S Miss...

no speculation on destination for MT

Very impressed with the sweep. I really thought we would drop at least one game. That's 3 quality wins IMO. Toledo and Evansville always are contenders in their league while UNCW looks set to have a special year.

Really like the Jacorey Williams kid. Too bad we didn't have him for more than a year. I feel like this team is picking up right where we left off last year.
