Really interesting interview yesterday on 104.5 with Coach O from LSU. He said when making staff changes after last year’s decline, he didn’t hire any assistant who was less than 20 years younger than him. “It’s a young man’s game.”
Apparently he won’t let his coaches come there to not recruit and/or wait on their retirement to kick in. 😢

You CAN bring in older guys in some cases. Look at Alabama, Nick Saban brings in a failed HC every year or 2, uses their expertise to reinvent and drive Alabama, while giving them a chance to reinvent their brand. Kiffin, Freeze, Sark, Butch Jones, etc. followed by Bill O’Brien and Doug Marrone this year.

You’re on point though, these coaches and young guys all have something in common - a drive to prove themselves. You can’t be a soft landing spot for buddies (looking at Mallory, West, TF the 2nd time pre-COV) that are just coasting.

Let’s not forget his old college roomie and lineman who was busted campaigning for “Stock to FSU” in their former players message board. As Stock’s Dir. of Football Operations, he’s one of the first faces that a recruit sees on their official visits. He’s also extremely lucky that Chris Massaro is his AD.
