FOOTBALL Updated/consolidated list of incoming transfers

Couple of discrepancies here, that I WILL UPDATE. The years of eligibility are NOT correct, there is an issue with the database. Also, Tuiono is from Nebraska Kearney, he went there after signing with UNM.

Looking good. Need more defense.

You never know until they actually show up (and stay healthy - i think this was an issue for us this year), but we need to hit some homeruns here.

OL Harris
WR Jones
LB Mitchell
TE Galloway

All are likely starters. Most of the others should see plenty of reps. So far so good, exactly what was needed. We really need another OL or two. Need help in the secondary too.

Are we killing it as well as it seems in transfer recruiting right now?

Still need an edge rusher too

Ummm. Don't we need like 5 of them?

They talked all year about the defenses problem being that we can't set the edge. Apparently if we could have just done that we would have actually had a defense....

Naturally, one would think we would really recruit the position hard and bring in some studs, right ? Especially after losing some of the few remaining DE's we had to transfer portal.....

I've yet to see a single starting caliber DE signed with this class. Insanity.

You expect MT to sign 5 edge rushers in the portal?

1000%

Did anyone else watch our games this year? Worst DE's I've seen in the 20 years I've followed this program. And the only decent one we had jumped in the portal.

Just remember this conversation please. Next year, when our defense is getting slaughtered again, and these coaches are talking about not being able to set the edge (They actually probably won't publicly say that again because boy it would be a bad look...), remember where the focus was with recruiting. It certainly wasn't on signing grown men at the DE position.

Have we signed a single DE that can play in 2025? Mason yaps about games being decided in the trenches and it all starts up front but then we have ignored the weakest position on defense?

You need a minimum of 4 good/great DE's on your roster, preferably 5 or 6. How many do we have?

Is Butt's an edge or more interior. I thought he played well at the end of the year.

Wet blanket yet again

Listed as a DE but I recall him mostly playing inside this year.

He has looked good for sure especially for his age. We could use 5 more just like him

he is probably playing the 5I or better known as field end in a 3-4. So it looks like he is inside alot

He plays that end role in the 3 man DL who have their hand in the dirt. Need to improve at the stand-up edge spot that was Buckner/Stewart last year.

Part of setting the edge is the OLB position too and they did add Jaiyden Thompson from JUCO there. They are still in the mix for a couple of edge targets from portal and juco. I think landing Alex Mitchell and letting Parker run around again will help as well. But they need to get a DL that can generate pass rush too. Commitments are not done yet imo

Pass rush has been almost nonexistent at the edge position. That's my beef. Our secondary looked so bad because we could not generate ANY pressure up front. You can put an NFL secondary back there but if a QB has all day he's gonna find someone open. You have to pressure up front and create some chaos. Not an option. I think our secondary, though admittedly bad, took way more blame than it should have. Guys like Tyrell Raby and Myers-Glover are good players. They will show out wherever they end up (Hopefully back with us)

One of the reasons I hate this DC so much is the lack of pressure up front. Rarely blitzes and when he does it never seems to get home. I miss the days of Shafer sending everyone and letting the chips fall where they may. Felt like we at least had a chance. I will never get behind a DC who lets a QB sit back and find his rhythm and throw up and down the field on us with no pressure. At least hit the guy and make him earn it.

I agree. Doubt Raby would be back. Doesn't make much sense to bring a guy back that is never healthy to me, but Myers would be nice. They did have Jalon Peoples from Texas Tech on campus recently tho. Was a well-thought of recruit that just hasn't gotten to play at Texas Tech. Would need to add more but that could be a good start

I probably don't pay as much attention to the injury stuff as I should. Perhaps Raby couldn't stay healthy, but he usually played well when he was on the field. Same for Marvae.

Defense is going to have a lot of new faces next year (again). Really hoping our DC adapts some of his approach and game planning. We have to find a way to generate pressure or we'll never stop anybody.
