FOOTBALL Thoughts on idea of CFB playoff expanding to 12 teams?

I agree 8 is right, but it'll be 12 so the P5 can make sure they have more than one team in. IE Georgia and Bama.

Schedules will have to change though. That'll make way too many games for college students in my opinion.

Good point. Either way, I think a team from CUSA is definitely in the conversation if they run the table, going 13-0.

Unfortunately 13-0 is not an expectation of our Football staff. Our high water marks for press releases and media guide bios are 6-6 seasons and being bowl eligible .

Not directed toward MT. With the 8 team or 12 team format at least there's a possibility of having a team rep the conference.

If all the conferences in FBS are truly FBS, I have yet to hear a reasonable argument that all conference champions shouldn’t get a shot in the playoff? Either drop the facade or give equal access.

I would honestly like to see a 16 team playoff with the 10 FBS conference champions and 6 at large. Seed them, but only a conference champion can host the first round. Without equal opportunity, then the G5 might as well drop back to FCS.

I think with the way our schedules normally are if we were to somehow miraculously go undefeated we would have a good shot at getting in. All I have wanted is for the G5 teams to be able to control their own destiny. Most years if a G5 teams goes undefeated they will be in the top 12 or at least top 6 of the conference champions.

Just another example of how bad our conference is.
But…..but….according to our AD, we’re the best of the bad. LOL!!

”Through all the turmoil, we had some remarkable achievements. We won six Conference USA championships (five league championships and one division title) – the most of any C-USA school. Hats off to women's cross country, women's basketball, men's tennis, men's golf, and women's outdoor track for their achievements. I want to offer a special salute as well to women's golf (C-USA runner-up) and to baseball (first time in C-USA tournament since 2015). Here is how we stacked up with our conference peers:

MTSU
Charlotte
WKU
Rice
6 (5 championships, 1 divisional)
5 (3 championships, 2 divisional)
5 (2 championships, 3 divisional)”

This is actually GREAT news (if it happens). A G5 team always getting in the playoff is a huge get. Im not saying CUSA is leading here, but just having that motivator is massive.

Continued rig system to screw over the little guy. Top 6 rated conf Champs for P5 + AAC. Watch as P5 & media fight for P5 at-large bids for the rest of the slots each year. Maybe, maybe a rare exceptional G5 team gets a slot every once and a while. For example, who do you think gets the last at-large bid, a LSU or a Marshall or any other similarly situated teams?

I'm down for 16 with all conf Champs getting an auto and the rest go to at-large bids. That way it would give that shot of the small guy knocking off a powerhouse a la March Madness. I'm not holding my breath.

8 is a good number. Personally I would do 6 teams and give 1 and 2 byes. 8 might be too much.
