LONDON — ...John Peers moved closer to another Grand Slam title on Wednesday.

And it took everything he and his partner had.

Peers and Henri Kontinen pulled out a grueling five-set win in the Wimbledon men’s doubles quarterfinals on Wednesday, outlasting French Open champions Ryan Harrison and Michael Venus, 6-4, 6-7 (5), 6-7 (4), 7-6 (7), 6-1. The match spanned three hours and 17 minutes of back-and-forth action.

Peers and Kontinen seek their second Grand Slam title of the year, as they won the Australian Open in January. They’ll next face fourth-seeded Marcelo Melo and Lukasz Kubot in the semifinals.
