FOOTBALL Return of Tony Franklin Could Make MT C-USA’s Team to Beat in 2016

I think I can speak for a lot of folks when I say that it's time to end the whole "we competed" and the "just happy to get to a bowl" attitude of this program.

We can send out all the surveys we want, but the biggest problem is that this team has not taken the natural step forward that so many of our rivals have done. There's no more excuses at this point.

We have the talent. We seem to be hiring excellent coaches (at least on the offensive side of the ball). We have to get the job done.

They have already made a statue.

Agreed. I'm OK with the current statues because I understand they're trying to develop some history, something identifiable, etc. But enshrining mediocre coaches isn't the way to go in the long term.

Welcome to the club.....It's nice to see so many others who are ready to hold this staff accountable to championships and moving the program forward.

Hiring Tony Franklin actually could turn out to be a double edged sword. Think for a second the reactions that will come about if we continue the status quo, or heaven forbid turn in a 5-7 2016 season followed by something similar in 2017.

In theory, this hire really puts Stockstill on a figurative hot seat (If that's even possible with his contract)

Rick Stockstill
2016 National Coach of the Year
2016 CFP National Champions
Middle Tennessee, 15-0... has a nice ring to it...

(LOL maybe 3016. and Rick Stockstill X)

Honestly, I would be happy with just a CUSA Championship in 2016. In the 14 years I've followed the Blue Raiders, we've never finished as a sole 1st place team (Though we've tied for first a few times).

If we can win the CUSA Championship, that will give us an opportunity to play in a nice bowl game against a good Power 5 school and then we can show the world what we're made of. You do that 2 or 3 times (hopefully in a row) and that's when you start garnering Boise St. type recognition. Then if we can somehow make a push for an undefeated season with smart scheduling and avoiding the Alabamas of the world that leads us to a potential BCS bowl birth.....and well...that's when you know we've arrived. And then you take advantage of that opportunity (Remember Boise St. vs. Oklahoma? The statue of liberty to win it....) and cement our universities name as a legit championship program.

But it's all babysteps. We gotta win an outright conference title first. It's all a process. A process I've dreamed of and envisioned since becoming a fan some 14 years ago. And it's why it's been so frustrating for me as a fan because in those 14 years we've never even been able to take the first step towards that goal. (Outright conference title)

No doubt, the finest post you have ever made on these boards. THIS is exactly what this program needs.
