Ladies and Gentleman it is time to throw your reputation on the line! I don't care if they get injured or not. I don't care if this QB does good or not. I don't care if we can stay from injuries. WHAT IS YOUR BOTTOM LINE prediction on how we finish the season regular season?

If you have been keeping up on what is going on then you have seen that Santa Clause has come early this year. A shot in the arm at WR and CB we have received. Freshman OL better than expected, Tight Ends that are locked and loaded, Most physical OL we have had in the Stockstill era, Nix more confident in our D than I have ever seen. With all that being said...........what is it?

I'll go first.

9-3. Our schedule is tough!

I'm going to say 9-3. 10-3 with the bowl win. I don't have a reason, just a gut feeling.

Wins: JaxSt, Charlotte, Vandy, FIU, FAU, NT, UTSA - should beat these guys
Losses: Alabama, LaTech - probably won't beat these guys
Toss Up: WKU, Illinois, Marshall - could go either way.

I'm going 8-4, I think we lose 2 of the 3 toss ups as those teams are probably better than us this year.

I pretty much agree with this except I would move Marshall up to the loss and I have La Tech as a toss up until I see them play with a their new qb and see how their defense is post-Manny. They could fall off.
I am predicting 7-5 plus a bowl win. Hope its better.

In the Stock era they almost always lose one of the so called automatic wins, (with the previous era that was 2-3 so it IS an improvement). While I think they should go 8-4, I think that will continue and it will be 7-5 then 8-5 with the bowl. For some reason I believe they ramp it up and win the bowl game.

Not to sound like a Debbie downer, but, realistically, I'm thinking we do well to go 7-5. Hope we do better, but that's my prediction....

I haven't been able to keep up with anything in the off season. I find it refreshing.

I hope we win it all.

I'm totally bloated from drinking blue Kool-Aid but I really feel that this team is going shock some folks this year. Here are some reasons why I'm stoked.

1. The addition of Burns as WR coach. So far in camp, the WR's have dialed up the intensity and have improved greatly on route running and technique. The previous coach never seemed to teach separation skills or hand skills getting to the ball. Collis is looking like a beast and has worked his tail off. Richie James is a baller (think Beyah's freshman year good), Joc Bruce is turning heads, Smith has grown like Collis and Batties is improving as well. At TE, Pettis has grown too and we will have viable targets all over including Tuck and other RB's. We have weapons and Burns has been a great addition thus far. Perfect fit for what we needed and a big upgrade over Watts.

2. Running backs galore. We have 5 viable backs that can play at anytime. Tuck, Parker and Bryson are the staples but Herod and Thomas are there as well. We also have a freshman that is Reggie Whatley fast. In other words, we are loaded.

3. 2 good QB's who are pushing each other. They are both good. People can say what they want about Grammer but in his first year, he throws for 2557 yards and runs for 442 getting a total of 2999 yards last season. Stockstill is probably as good in the air as him. Most schools are struggling to find one gamer and we have 2.

4. Beef on OL. I never thought I'd see the day where we would end up bringing in 6'6 310 lb guys on the regular and we got 4 this last signing day alone. We should end up having a great line by game 3 or 4. I mean great. Once they gel, it will be scary.

5. Aggressiveness and talent on the DL. We have size, speed and depth on the DL at DE and DT. So far, they are having an awesome camp. Way better than last year from what I've heard and seen.

6. Experience and toughness at LB. Barber is killing it in camp so far and Luckett is going all out too. We have lots of talent there.

7. Secondary has been upgraded and improved. With Cutrer adjusting and Heard gaining ground with the seasoned experience of Byard, this will be the most improved unit on the team. If we can simply cover for a second longer on pass plays, we will hold 3rd downs more because the D line will force the QB to get rid of the ball much sooner than he will want to which causes incomplete passes and interceptions.

We will have a couple setbacks but I really like this team. We should be able to make a run this year. I'm going 9-3 with a possible 10-3 by getting the bowl win. Anything at 8-4 or above is what I'm feeling. 2009 preseason feelings here. :)

Love the optimism! And you are obviously closer to the program and have put more thought into where we are than have I.

That said: Two caveats - I hope I'm wrong but I'm not sold on either QB becoming a really good D-1 field general. And as for signing 6'6" 310 lb OL prospects. If they would be "scary" good by the third or fourth game of their freshmen year we wouldn't have signed them; they would be at an elite Power 5 program. The ones we sign will usually need at least a couple of years in the weight room before becoming adequate in the trenches. Just my 2 ¢

I'm drinking the blue kool-aid as well. This is as good a roster as we've had in a long time, from a depth and talent perspective.

That said, your point #3 is what's kind of scary to me.

Grammar should be good, but i'm still wary of the drop off in play towards the end of the year. Until Stockstill gets some extended PT, and not just garbage time, we don't really know what we have in that guy either.

If they both are gamers and can play at a high level consistently, I think we could be in for big things.

But if the real Grammar was the one we saw late last season and Stockstill never lives up to his billing, we could have a team that just misfires all year.

In theory if a qb gets worse during the season then that is an awful sign. Considering the fact that AG was hurt towards the lend of the year last year that should put his decline into perspective(HOPEFULLY). I think the fact that his injury limited how far he could throw it basically contained us to a 15-20 yard box. Hopefully with his improved mechanics and health along with our dynamic running attack, and multiple receiving threats QB play shouldnt be an issue.

Uh, Grammer's first year is a hell of a lot better than Kilgore's first full year. 6-6 is way better than 2-10.

3000 yards with some improvements in some choices and he'll be just fine. He'll improve this year.

7-5 + bowl game = a pretty good year. Good in winning record & bowl, but not so good in building momentum, buzz, and attendance for the program. A decent to good bowl win might help some with recruiting.

8-4 possible, would be a really good year considering the schedule. A factor on the quality of an 8 win season would be who the wins and losses were against. Were they close losses to really good teams? Convincing wins vs decent teams? Good wins at home?

Anything 6-6 or lower would be really disappointing at this stage.

7 wins and a bowl game would be decent season, not great, but not real bad either. I'd say 7-5 is likely candidate.

8 wins and a bowl game is possible but likely a little bit of a stretch, but certainly not outside the realm of at least a chance.

6 wins or lower would be pretty disappointing with what appears to be improved quality and depth of players. At the same time with these players, the potential appears to be there for them to be really good if they can bring it all together as a team.

Lastly, in the fairly unlikely category, 9 wins. Not impossible, but it would entail all position groups coming together and playing to potential the entire season. Everything would have to come together from player performance and coaching. Little to no mistakes, takeaways not turnovers. No injury bug etc etc. A 9 win run would go a long way in building momentum, buzz, and excitement around the football program. Heck, 9 wins might even add a few more butts in seats. MT would have to win games vs Vandy, Illinois, and Marshall. Losses would have to be vs Bama, WKU (if they are all they're cracked up to be), and another road conference game i.e. LaTech as Skip Holtz has demonstrated a propensity to improve and highly perform in C-USA.

All in all, 7 wins likely meets expectations, 8 wins, exceeds expectations. 9 wins would build hope and expectations for something pretty special imo. I'm guessing we'll likely see 7 or 8 wins, but I hope, er, dream for 9 wins or more.

I've thought about this for a while. I'm going in the middle with 8-4. My gut tells me 9-3, but my head says 7-5. I hope I'm completely wrong with 11-1 or 12-0 (Bama laughs at that). Final record is 9-4 with a bowl win. Those on here predicting 9-3 need to factor in the conference championship game as well as the bowl game.

I'm expecting 6-6 but hoping we are better than expected.

If things go as most would likely expect, MT will likely be heading to Illinois with a realistic 2-1 record. If MT is at that point of 2-1, I think that Illinois game becomes a pretty big game that just might foreshadow what type of season and record MT will end up with. Illinois is a legit Big 10 team, but they haven't been a powerhouse lately. They're not terrible either. If MT can bring their A game, it just might be a game that MT could win. It would have the potential to be an added victory that makes a difference in the record at the end of the season.

WKU will likely be a war. The Marshall game, I just don't know what to expect. The FAU game concerns me. If MT is having a decent season, FAU has the potential to be a trap game. For whatever reason, MT seems to struggle vs FAU. It will be really interesting to see if MT's younger players are improving. Of further interest is seeing how some of these new players will perform since they appear to generally a little bigger and stronger this year.
